Church event
Members of Lucan United &
Holy Trinity Anglican held a'joint
service in the former Church,
Sunday morning, when Rev.
Keith Brown conducted his first"
service for the Lucan-Clandeboye
Charge.
Summer meditations will be on
the Psalms and Mr. Brown based
his remarks on Psalm I on
Sunday saying there are two
kinds of people, the blessed man
and ungodly man, representing
two life styles, one leading to life
eternal the other to death,
He said the ungodly are those
who have not placed their faith
and trust in God and are unsure
of their relationship with God.
The Psalmist points out the
dangers and advises of the joy
and gladness of doing God's will.
If we wish to be truly happy we
must drink of the river of life
(God) constantly and follow His
way.
The flowers in the Sanctuary
were from the funeral of the late
Susan Smith. The sympathy of
the congregation is extended to
the family. Miss Debbie Lynn of
Clandeboye was guest organist
for the service. If there are any
announcements please ,contact
Rev. Brown at 227-1143 and
members were asked to make a
note of the new number.

Water bills left unpaid by
departing tenants have become a
problem in Lucan. It is estimated
that the village had been left with
$309 in unpaid bills during the
past six months.
At Tuesday night's council

owners of rental buildings to
include the water rate in rent.
Council will also formulate a new
policy for dealing with
delinquents.
An additional $5,000 subsidy
will be sought from the Ministry
of Transportation and Com-
munication to pay the balance on

Avenue. Council also decided to
approve contracting the work at
once to Elginfield Construction.
If the additional sum is not
granted, the unpaid portion of the
bill will go into next year's
budget. A subsidy of $12,000 had

The property is west of his
subdivision and south of the
village boundary.
No development will be allowed
until it has been rezoned from
agricultural to residential and
until a third cell has been added
to the sewage treatment lagoon.
A copy of a letter from J.A.D.
Gibson of Lucan will be sent to
the ministry of environment, to
reinforce council's own efforts to
accelerate sewer hook-ups. The
ministry is in charge of the
village's sewer extension.
Mr. Gibson had written asking
council for a,statement of policy
on hook-ups. Hei wondered, after
reading a newspaper report,
whether homes in new sub-
divisions were taking precedence
over older ones like his own. A
drainage problem causes water
to back up into the basement of
his house.
Another resident, Harold
Corbett, had written suggesting
that a single residence charge for
garbage collection be made when
two families occupied the upper
and lower levels of the same
building. Council agreed that, if it
made one exception such as this
to local regulations, the door
would be opened to many others.
The lawyer representing B.D.
Davidson of 123 Albert Street,
Lucan, in action against London
Precision Buildings, had written
asking questions which could
only be answered by the building
inspector, then on holiday.
Council decided to obtain legal
advice before framing a reply
asking for clarification of certain
points in the letter and stating
that the matter would be referred
to the building inspector on his
return.
Ed Melanson, village clerk,
was authorized to sign building
permits during any absence of
the building inspector.
A donation of $100 was ap-
proved to the Cobalt Fire
Disaster Fund. The town is trying
to raise $600,000, in addition to
government funds, to rebuild
homes and businesses lost in the
fire.
Councillors declined to support
a proposal by Spanish River,
Ontario, that Ontario
municipalities write provincial
and federal parliament members
asking for a revision of the in-
come tax act exempting coun-
&hors on the first $1,000 received
in honorariums or one-third of the
amount, whichever was greater.
A rate is to be set for cutting
weeds on private property. The
weed inspector will also be asked
to outline his program for weed
control.

Thereiis no' law in Ontarlio

To be a member of thig
association he, or she, must

Yes, it will, unless the
province passes amending

same expiry date as the MB
