Community Services Officer Constable G.J. Barker said none of the four accidents investigated this week occurred over the Friday night to Sunday night period. However, officers were kept busy with an assortment of calls which included domestic disputes, erratic driving and thefts. Property taken in the four thefts was valued at $854. A break and enter at the Ilderton Co-Op netted thieves a quantity of tools valued at $3,765. The investigation is continuing. Four persons were reported missing and three have been Share Nature's Bounty -• BE A+ BLOOD DONOR pictures of Holy Land trip Institute members watch Members of the Lucan Women's Institute met in the Masonic Hall Wednesday evening for their May meeting with Rita Robb, one of the branch direc- tors, in charge of the program. Mrs. M. Bradford of London a former member told of her recent trip to the Holy Land and showed her pictures. Her greatest im- pression was that of stoniness, All the buildings were made of stone and she said she didn't see a fence all the time she was there, only stone walls. The only trees growing in Israel were olive and eucalyptus, and, a few evergreens, none of which lend themselves to building. President Lillian Ashton chaired the business meeting during which it was decided to attend the Huron Country Playhouse matinee production of "Plaza Suite" on Wed., July 6, and all members not present will be contacted. A smorgasbord supper will be enjoyed at the Village Inn, following the play. The annual picnic will be held in the Lions Club Park June 15, with a "Pot Luck" luncheon at noon. The president reported on the Waterloo Conference where 496 Institute members from across Ontario were registered full time, plus some members who came in by the day. The theme for the Conference was "When planning for a year sew corn - When planning for a decade plant trees - When planning for a lifetime train and educate people" Mrs. Ashton said she found the Conference very stimulating and received much useful in- located. Traffic patrols were stepped up and several speeding and unnecessary noise charges were laid. Damages were light in the four accidents amounting to only $1,750. Monday at 9.50 p.m. on High- way 4 in Arva a vehicle being driven by William Phillips, Denfield caught fire. The blaze was extinguished by the Arva fire brigade. Constable J.A. Wilson listed damage at $300. Constable G.N. Wilcox set damages at $850 when vehicles driven by Nora Sommerville, RR 6, St. Marys and Gilbert Fear- nall, London collided on Highway 7, a quarter mile west of the Thames River bridge. formation which will assist her in her term of office. Bernice Lockyer, District Director, for the Branch, reported on the District Annual held last Tuesday in Parkhill, with Cloverdale Institute hosting the event. The theme in this case was "Building for Tomorrow". She reported that the rally fee is to be increased, as are the Branch Fees, that stamps of higher value are needed, that two delegates are to be appointed to attend the 80th Anniversary of the Women's Institutes on July 13 in Kitchener and that Cloverdale will sponsor a "short course" on "Interior Design" for our District, later in the year. Mrs. Robb reported that she has visited with Violet Hardy, Tweedsmuir History Curator, found her improved and presented her with a gift on behalf of the Institute. Iva Hodgins, typist for that corn: mittee was remembered with a gift of a set of pens, which will be most useful. Both members were thanked for their years of service on the committee. As one of our members has become a Stanley Brush representative it was suggested that the Institute sponsor a party, inviting as many guests as the hall will accommodate. Plans for this will be completed at the June picnic. It was agreed that an ad should be placed in the Lions Club Fair Paper and that the P.R.0 ., Iva Hodgins, should be respon- sible.Agnes Hotson voiced thanks toall who took part in making the meeting so very successful. The roll call "Tell something new you have learned this year regarding materials, plastics, household duties, etc." proved to be most interesting and the motto "What is new?" was taken by Mrs. Robb. Alice Hodgson won a prize by choosing to sit on the "dated" chair. Marjorie Crozier and Bernice Loc-kyer served lunch, decorated cupcakes in honour of Mrs. Crozier's 37th wedding an- niversary. The church and the .pew The guest speaker at Lucan United Church Sunday was the Rev. G.E. Morrow, London, who took as his topic "The Church and the Pew". He said "The Church is the fundamental institution for helping to win men and women for Christ 'and' is the 'booster' house where the Spirit of God is generated". He proceeded to give eleven different types of pews, the oc- cupants of which helped or, hindered the process of God's' work within the Church, The choir sang a lovely arrangement of "The King of Love my Shepherd is" under the direction of Ray Koopman. The flowers in the sanctuary were gratefully received from the funerals of Irving Gibson and Harold Cobleigh, both long time members of the Church and community. The flowers were distributed to the sick and shut- ins after the service, The Prayer and Share Fellowship group meets this, morning, Thursday, at 9.45, with baby-sitting provided. All women of the community are invited. This evening members and friends of the Couples' Club will meet at the Bowling Alley at 8 p.m„ later church for refresh- ments. All welcome. The annual Flower Sunday service will be held June 5 under the direction of the Sunday Church School, and on June 19, the Rev. Harold Snell, of Exeter, will be the guest speaker for the Church Anniversary Service. There is an urgent need at a Mission Hospital in Angola and a bale will be packed on June 14. The police apprehended a suspect and I was asked to come and iden- tify my belongings. I was told' that my equipment couldn't be released until after the trial as it was needed for evidence. I still haven't heard from the police and am wondering how long I may have to wait. This is really your fault because you were notified by registered mail to come and get your stereo and tapes. Since no One was home you were left a notice informing you that a registered letter awaited you at the Post Office. Subsequently since, another notice was delivered but still you failed to call! You can get your belongings from the police at any time. It would be nice to see someone write in to your column who has no complaints but rather, a compliment. Well a stranger did my sister a favour and I just thought his kindness was worth writing about. She was driving on the Main street of Orangeville and was stopped for a red light when her car suddenly stopped. She became very flustered, but the man in the car beside her, park- ed his car and came back to assist. He recruited a few people from the street and they were able to push her car off the Main street and to diagnose the problem as, "being out of gas." This gentleman obtained a can of gas from a nearby service station and soon my sister was on her way home again, thanks to a perfect stranger. Area police detachment reports quiet weekend . .
