RENA CALDWELL KIPPEN Mrs. Alex McGregor had charge of the program for the May 18 meeting of Kippen East W.I. and she opened the program with a poem "Flowers". Mrs. Campbell Eyre contributed a poem, "I Wish." Mrs. James Chalmers and Mrs. M. Connolly leaders of their 4-H Girls Club had their girls model their leisure clothes. Models were Carol McGregor, Robyn McLellan, Julie Wright, Cathy Finlayson, Karen Finlayson, They had 12 girls in their club, Mrs. Laird Finlayson and Mrs. Hugh Parsons led a club of 16 girls. Their models were: Linda Vanneste, Sharon Finlayson, Heather Moffatt, Nancy McGregor, Debbie Consitt, Sue Anne Finlayson, Nancy Stoll, Brenda Vanneste, Annette Blom, Kathy Vanneste, Nancy Parsons, Sandra Finlayson. Elaine received many beautiful and useful gifts and thanked the ladies and invited them to her wedding dance June 4, Cancer unit names slate At a May 10 meeting of the Parkhill-Ailsa Craig Cancer Unit held at Chateau Gardens, Parkhill, elections were held for the new executive committee. Members include President, Mrs. Judy Prout; Vice President, Mrs. Ruth Arnel; Secretary, 'Mrs. Albert McLachlan; Treasurer, Mr. R. J. Ratwell; Campaign Chairman, Mrs. Ralph Eagleson; Vice-Chairman, Mrs. William Woodburn; Education Chairman, Mrs. William Waters; Vice Education Chairman, Mrs. Duncan McLachlan, Com- memoration Funds Committee, Mrs. Laurence Box and Mrs. Bruce Fraser; Service to Patients Chairman, Mrs. George Robbins and Publicity Chairman, Mrs. Nelson Scheifele. An increase over last year's contributions were received by the unit, with more than $5,000 resulting from the' annual can- vass, Plans were commenced for setting up a display booth at the Parkhill annual Fall Fair with Smoking Sam in attendance. The posters created by the area children attending public schools will be put on display, Ladies team wins first season tilt The Ailsa Craig ladies softball team has been organized again for the coming season. The first game was played last Wednesday with a triumphant victory over Lucan. The team this year is being coached again by Jack Rosser of Ailsa Craig, assisted by Linda Wasnidge. By JOY SCHEIFELE Paul and Shirley Hodgson of Ailsa Craig departed from Melton airport Saturday evening with their two young children for Kaitiji, Nigeria. The couple will remain in Kainji for the next two years, with the option of staying the third year, where Paul will be employed by the National Electrical Power Authority of Nigeria. Here he will be working with the native people teaching them to install and maintain power lines, as well as acting as a trouble shooter for the company. "We're really looking forward to going", stated Shirley. "It will be an absolutely new experience for both of us", For several years, Paul worked with Ontario Hydro. His wife, Riverview W.I. view antiques For their May meeting the ladies of the Riverview W.I. were the guests of Mrs. Mery Little, Ilder ton. A collector of antiques, Mrs. Little invited the members to tour her home to view the various items she has collected over the years. Included in the items was an old Franklin type stove which the Littles had been able to use and even bake bread with durirrk the ice storm of two years ago. Many of the antiques were carefully displayed in her family room which she herself had designed and had especially built. The Riverview members under the direction of Mrs. D. Hughes, convener, are busy planning a tour of London for sometime in June. The group plan to take a bus to London, and tour the Universal Art Gallery, St. Pauls Cathedral, Eldon House and the Curtis Rose Gardens in Springbank Park, They will break at noon time for lunch at the Garage Restaurant. Members were also invited to the annual 4-11 Achievement Day to be held at Parkhill on Satur- day, June 4. Mrs. Stuart McCallum offered to provide transportation for any wishing to attend if they would contact her this week. Mrs. F. Dickens gave an in- teresting report on the District Annual held at Parkhill on May 17. She also presided for the program as convener of Education and World Affairs. Young people (Young Canadian Christians) from both churches prepared the Service. The ser- vice was planned by the folloWing: Susan Arthur, Valerie Denham, Wayne Denham, Lana Marshall and Garry Urquhart. John Harness, Blenheim and Mr, & Mrs. Jitn Anderson, Janine and Jennifer, London spent the holiday weekend with their mother Mrs, Irene Harness. Shirley, had been Director of Nursing at Craigholme Nursing Home. In Nigeria she hopes to be able to do volunteer nursing and community health work, "We will have a four bedroom house there", Shirley reported. "But from pictures we've seen it is an area of contrasts, with mud huts situated next to modern houses". There is still much bartering done in the area, and food sup- plies have to bought daily with the exception of beef which may be purchased in larger quantities from a cattle farm nearby. "Most of the T.V. there is educational T.V,, but we are taking a small 12" T.V. set with us", explained Shirley.'Licenses are required for T,V.'s and radio and the licenses require photos of their owners on them", The Hodgsons are also taking along a transformer as most electrical appliances have to be converted from 220 volts to 110 volts. The couple stopped over briefly in Holland, then flew on to Lagos, then on to their final destination. The couple have two daughters, Shannon two years and Sherry, one year.
