Many from Granton participate in Cancer ride HURON COUNTY SERF
By MRS. E. SUMMERS
GRANTON
There was a wonderful
response from the riders who
took part in the Great Family
Ride for Cancer Sunday af-
ternoon. The weather was ideal
except for the wind which was
quite strong, but all in all the
event was a great success.
The executive of the Lucan
Biddulph Branch of the Canadian
Cancer Society wish to extend
their appreciation to all who
contributed to this ride. The
riders, including the ones on
horseback, the Senior Citizens of
Lucan, the Friendly Neighbours
of Granton, the Village fathers,
the Town fathers of Lucan and all
the volunteers who helped in any
way.
Cub Mothers Host Banquet
The Granton Cub Mother's
Auxiliary were hostesses to the
South Perth Regional Scout
Committee Wednesday evening
at the United Church, Eighty
members and guests sat down to
a hot turkey dinner, This was a
fund raising project undertaken,
by the Cub Mothers and under the
leadership of Mrs, Robt, Harloff.
Special music
At the United Church Rev.
Cecil Jardine former minister of
Hyatt United Church, London and
now retired, took the service for
Rev. Elwood Morden Sunday
morning, owing to a death in Rev.
Morden's family.
Rev. Jardine took his sermon
from Kings II 'Alas my master
what shall we do?" and entitled it
"Word of encouragement",
Throughout our lives we have
been faced with crises of war,
food, and environment, yet we
have maintained our faith
through all, said Rev. Jardine.
Special music was two anthems
by the Junior Choir. Flowers
were placed in the church in
loving memory of the late Mrs.
Annetta Riddolls mother of Mrs.
Elwood Morden,
At St, Thomas Anglican Church
Rev, Mary Mills conducted thb
a.m. service, Sunday. It being St.
Philip's and St. James Day, Rev.
Mills dealt with Faith and
Christianity in her sermon, and
said Christianity cannot be
practiced alone.
Happy Gang meet
There was a good turnout for
the Happy Gang meeting Wed-
nesday afternoon, held at the
Scout Hall, as there was a
banquet being held at the United
Church that evening.
Mrs. Henry Wisgel presided for
this meeting, and opened with a
poem "Spring stood tall". It was
decided to make the June
meeting a picnic, and to have
Kentucky fried chicken again. A
sing-song led by Mrs. Elmer
Summers with Mrs. Chas, Gowan
at the piano was enjoyed.
Members with birthdays in
April and having their names on
the cake were, Etta Carson,
Dorothy Pecko, Millie Langford,
Harold Talbot and Frank Squire,
The rest of the afternoon was
spen\t, in the enjoyment of cards,
crokmole, shuffleboard, and pool.
Lunch committee consisted of
Mrs. Harold Westman and Mrs.
Omer Burnett.
Friendly Neighbours
The friendly neighbours have
decided to meet every two weeks,
instead of once a week, now that
the weather is so nice and people
like to be outside more, so the
next meeting will be on Wed-
nesday May 11 at the Scout Hall
1:30 p.m.

question the need for that
apology.
In view of their dedication and
the honour which they brought to
their community, the team
should have to, apologize to no
one for their brief revelry, nor
should the local firemen who
joined in with them.
Hopefully it will not deter all
those involved from attempting
to create a similar situation
again at the conclusion of next
season.
