was coming in the back door and
was being pumped out the front.
Mrs. Sims reported very little
damage', saying, "We were able
to take up most of our rugs
before the water came". The liv-
ing room rug was soaked but
they had it hanging up to dry
Wednesday afternoon and didn't
expect too much damage.
There was considerable
flooding at Port Franks Friday
afternoon but this was quickly
cleared up when the ice gave
way. The level of Lake Huron is
lower this year and the extra fall
of current was instrumental in
flushing the ice from the river
out into the lake.
The only apparent damage at
Riverview Park was to one of the
bridges which allows visitors to
walk from one side of the river to
the other. It was washed down to
the bridge at Highway 4.
Works superintendent Glenn
Kells said a main beam in the
bridge was broken and it was
beyond repair. The bridge was
fished out of the water Monday
afternoon by the PUC truck.

ISSUE PLEA
The Exeter police department
issued a plea to parents this
week to warn their children
about the dangers of playing near
the flood swollen waters of the
Ausable River,
On Sunday, at the height of the
flood, there were reports that
children were attempting to
wade through the water to get to
the bridges in the park.
Police note that the water is
still extremely cold and a child
could be easily swept away in the
swift current.
