He explained that the land for the cemetery had been deeded to the town in two transfers, one from Nelson Stanlake in 1925 and the other by the Exeter Burial Grounds Committee in 1904 and the two deeds don't go together to give a continual piece of property. A survey of the northern boun- dary undertaken in 1968 by B. M. Ross indicates that the prior con- veyances were not entirely ac- curate, although Gray said the differences were very minor. Council was told they wouldn't be giving anything away in the quitclaim, but merely saying they did not own any property outside the northern fence. Councillor Ted Wright said the cemetery board has recognized the irregularities, saying that a fence on the property was erected to follow the river bank P-t4pc1 it was therefore not in a straight line. While there appeared to be few objections to the lawyer's re- quest, council decided to turn the matter over, to the cemetery board for their recommendation, Couldn't fool everyone! "We believe that the Provin- cial Government should give im- mediate financial assistance to municipalities, by means of road subsidies for snow clean-up and removal. but they still persist, • So far only one car has been towed away and that was one which was abandoned in the middle of main street, However, under Section 116 of the Highway Traffic Act vehicles which block the traffic on streets or hinder snow removal may be towed away. Council passed a motion requesting the village foreman phone police if necessary to get the offending vehicles removed, towed away if necessary. The village will not be hiring equipment to widen the main streets as it would be very costly and the streets are in good shape in the View of council, Council passed a motion stating "Many farmers, particularly dairy farmers, have expbrienced enormous difficulties in shipping their milk and other .com- modities, because of the disaster snow conditions. A number of dairy farmers have been forced to dump their milk because of impassable roads. We are calling upon the Minister of Agriculture to initiate, with a minimum of delay, a programme to compen- sate these farmers for their losses." it was "unwarranted" to read aloud a letter addressed to council from Don Southcott but the letter was noted, received and The Mission & Service Com- mittee of the Lucan United Church met at the home of the Chairman, Mrs. Wm. Councillor Harold Greene will attend a meeting at the Ausable- Bayfield Conservation Authority some money raising project by the first Sunday in May. TheWoodburn family of London has been invited to participate in a program on Wednesday, April 27, presenting an hour of singing. A few local young people will be asked to contribute numbers as well and there will be an offering to help alleviate suffering in developing countries. An "Un-dinner" will be planned in the Fall. Brownies, Guides, Cubs, Scouts, the Explorer and C.G.I.T. members parents and friends, are invited to the annual Youth Church Parade on Sunday morning, at 11:15, in the Lucan United Church, For the first four groups this commemorates the birthdays of Lord and Lady Baden Powell and the U.C. girls groups will be guests. Members will gather in the C.E. rooms at 11 a.m. in preparation to parade into Church, Cemetery line not dead-on Abe Lincoln said many years ago it was impossible to fool all the people all the time, and this was pointed out to the T-A this week by three observant readers. In last week's issue we ran a picture of a road where a snowblower had come to a dead end. It carried a caption of "try again in July?". It was actually a picture taken from the 1971 blizzard but was used again to depict conditions following this year's storm, While three readers with keen memories ( or a good scrapbook ) spotted the resemblance and called our bluff,' there were many more who stopped staff members to suggest that the picture was probably taken on their road last week. So, it appears that while the photo was not taken last week, it was an accurate in- dication of the situation facing road crews in the area and that was our intent. To the student out in Stephen who wrote a letter questioning our use of the picture we say "yes" to her question "was it too stormy to get a new picture of the real thing?" memamnamemainuaannuumamaliu I ADAMS 1 Heating & Cooling • Heating Systems of All Types INSTALLED, MODERNIZED F. and MAINTAINED General Sheet 'Metal Work cAir Conditioning 1". • Humidifiers headquarters. February 25, The topic of the meeting will be flood control and with the amount of snow piled up in the village, council thinks there may be problems. They also ordered 1,000 more sandbags to refurbish the village's rather depleted stock, . Don Southcott notified council in writing of his intention -to proceed with the construction of docks along the river bank bordering the Sherwood property. Council did not endorse a resolution asking for support to petition the provincial and federal governments to bring in legislation to speed up market responses to increased costs incurred by farmers. Canada week will be from June 25 to July 1 this year. Letters will be written to the Ministry of Tourism asking for financial aid in supplying proper beach patrols for the summer. Deputy-Reeve Simpson summed council's feelings when he said "We are supplying a service to the visitors of Ontario not just the village residents and we should be able to get some kind of aid." If there is no aid available there will only be three lifeguards hired this year which means during the week there will be only one guard on patrol for the entire north beach. A motion was passed to pur- chase six used council chairs and two used steno chairs at a cost of $50 each for the former and $35 each for the latter, Lucan church news • Ventilation 235-2187 I:: 133 Huron St., East, Exeter
