rate in the county is one of the

Huron County has also a pre-4-
H program which was started in
1971 and is designed to involve the
11 year olds in the 4-H programs.
In 1975, 35 people enrolled in the
pre-4-1-1 courses and only eight
dropped out, In 1976, 43 11 year-
olds in the county took part in the
pre-4-H course. In order to
become a full-fledged 4-H
member, a person must be 12
years of age.
The past year was a busy one
for the 4-H club programs in the
county, Twenty-seven delegates
attended a regional conference in
Centralia and two members
attended a leadership week in
Guelph.
The exchanges with 4-H
members in other parts of North
America are becoming in-
creasingly popular. This, year
exchanges were in great demand
with four members exchanged
with a Nova Scotia 4-H club and
29 exchanged with a club in
Pennsylvania. This was the first
year the number of applications
to go on exchange trips exceeded
the number of places on the
exchanges available.
Even more exchanges are
being planned for 1977 as their
popularity increases. Also, the

members to a Co-Op Youth
Convention being held this year.
In view of the fact this is the
Associations 25th anniversary, a
committee has been formed to
look into the possible methods of
celebrating this anniversary
year. The general feeling of the
meeting was an afternoon or
evening should be arranged to
enable 4-H members from the
past 25 years to get together and
talk over old times, It was also
suggested that a booklet of all the
past club leaders in the 4-H be put
together with comments from
each one regarding the 4-H clubs.
This anniversary committee
includes Simon Hallahan, 8,on
McMichael, Jean Dinsmore,
John Clark, Bob McNiel, Gordon
Papple and Maurice Hallahan
plus several members to be
appointed from the Youth
Council.
The members of the
Association decided to affiliate
once again with the Huron County
Federation of Agriculture and
Jean Dinsmore was elected as
their representative to the
Federation,
Agriculture representative Don
Pullen brought greetings to the
Association from the Department
of Agriculture in the county and
commended the members on the
fine work they are doing. Mr.
Pullen said the volunteer 4-H
leaders are very much ap-
preciated as "so few people do
much for nothing these days".
Mr. Pullen added he felt the
leaders had done a great deal for
the youth of the county by
teaching them to "Learn to do by
doing",
Huron County Warden Doug
McNeil extended greetings from
the County,
