Flyers defeat CCAT
Last Sunday the Zurich Flyers
defeated CCAT at the Zurich
arena by a score of 7 to 2.
The Flyers took the lead in the
first five minutes of the game
and never lost it, CCAT
managed to hang on until into
the second period keeping Zurich
to two goals while scoring two
themselves.
Late in the second peridd the
Flyers came to life and took over
the game scoring five con-
secutive goals to win the game.
Zurich goals were scored by
Wayne Clarke, Derek O'Brien, 2;
Glen Overholt, Randy
McKinnon and Bob Farquhar, 2.
Assists went to Randy
McKinnon, Steve Bedour, Wayne
Clarke, Pete Postell, Rick
Schilbe and two to Glen Overholt,

The new Stanley township
council learned at its inaugural
meeting last Tuesday that
building permits valued at
$1,238,400 were issued in the
township last year. Ninety-eight
permits were issued,
Clarence Rau will be Stanley's
representative on the Zurich Fire
Area Board for the coming year
and Donald McGregor will be Stanley's representative on the
Clinton Fire Area Board,
Stanley's representative to the
Ausable Bayfield Conservation
Authority is Paul Steckle; tile
drainage inspector is Donald
Brodie; representative to the
Huron County Farm Safety
Association is Donald McGregor;
poundkeepers are Rick Greer,
Bill Steckle, Jack Hamilton, Jack
Coleman, Fred Gibson and A.J.,
Mustard; fence viewers are
Darcy Rathwell, Cliff Henderson,
Charles Rau and Robert Turner
as an alternate; livestock
evaluators are William Caldwell
and Elmer Turner.
Colonials
win twice
The Shipka Colonials came out
on top in both games played last
week. On January 4, Shipka
defeated Goderich 8-5 and
January 7 they trounced CCAT 9-
0.
The game against Goderich
was a close fought battle with
Goderich opening the scoring in
the first period. It was close to the
end of that period before Larry
Laye connected on 'a pass from
Dave Turner to tie the score at 1-
1.
In a high-scoring second period
Goderich took two fast goals to
move into the lead. Undaunted,
the Colonials fought back scoring
two of their own, Both teams
managed one further goal before
the end of the second period.
Goderich opened the scoring
once again in the third period but
that was to be their final goal as
the Colonials held them off while
scoring four goals of their own.
Goal scorers in the second and
third periods for Shipka were
Paul Maguire, 3, Larry Laye, 2,
John Becker and Brad'. Deters.
Assists went to Mike Desjardine,
Larry Laye, Dave Turner, John
Becker, 2, Steve Kadlecik, 2, and
Dan Stanlake. Larry Laye was
the star chosen rrom the
Colonials.
In the game Shipka" played
against CCAT in Zurfch, John
Hayter in goal for the Colonials
took a shut-out as CCAT' went
down to defeat 9-0.
Goal scorers for the Colonials
were Pete Gill, 2, John Becker,
Ed drenier, Dan Dalton and Brad
Datars, with a hat-trick for Larry
Laye who was also chosen as the
Colonials star of the game.
The Colonials next games will
be Thursday evening in Hensall
against Hensall and Friday
evening against Huron Park in
Zurich,
Mel Graham has again been
appointed clerk treasurer and tax
collector with Betty Graham
appointed as deputy clerk
treasurer, Donnelly and Murphy
will continue to be the township's
solicitors; Durst Vodden and
Bender the auditors and C.P.
Corbett and Co. the engineers for
the township.
The recreation committee will
be expanded to include 11 persons
if possible. Appointed from
council are Clarence Rau and
Donald Brodie. Other members
appointed so far are Jean Rath-
well, Arnold Taylor, Gerald
Hayter, Howard Armstrong,
John Paul Rau, Harvey Hayter,
and Mary Erb, Council has eX-
pressed a desire to find two more
interested persons, preferably
female.
Grants were approved in the
amount of $100 to the Salvation
Army, $35 to the Canadian
Mental Health, $35 to the War
Memorial Children's Hospital
and $40 to Baird's Cemetery
