It was about the same time that they began to develop the holiday cruise which we know so well today. The Caribbean offers the perfect setting for the holiday cruise, short 3/4 day cruises as well as 14 day cruises are pop- ular and offer good value for money, In addition, the ship lines and airlines are combining to offer numerous fly/cruise programmes while others are offering inclusive • packages where flights and cruise are included in one price. Strand Holidays are offering such a holiday. Using the M/V Vera Cruz the lowest inclusive rate for your flight and a seven day all inclusive cruise in the Caribbean is only $375.00. The Strand two week cruise starts at $595.00. Norwegian Caribbean Lines offer three vessels, The Starward, Skyward and Southward. Personal experience of these magnificent ships makes my recommendation easy. Leaving each Saturday from Miami, each of these vessels have different intriguing courses, Somehow, this line with its superb cleanliness, excellent food and friendly crew give you the feeling that this is a maiden voyage, nobody previously occupied your cabin. A Fly/Cruise programme is available on these cruises from Toronto using Air Canada or from Detroit using Delta. Minimum cruise rates at this time are about $400.00 plus air fare. I was recently on board the newest vessel operating in the Caribbean The Cunard Countess, An ultra modern ship with interior decor to match. Perhaps this Would be a fault to many, the colour schemes were quite dazzling, The ship visits La Guaira (for Caracas), Grenada, that magnificent island in the windward group, Barbados, St. Lucia and St, Thomas. The ship is based in San Juan, Although rates start at $395,00 for the Countess cruise there are so few cabins at this rate I would rather say that the tate starts at $450.00, Numerous other cruises from New York, various Florida ports and more recently New Orleans offer the prospective cruise client unlimited choice of itinerary, length of cruise. Whether you choose a short 3/4 day party cruise, a seven, ten or 14 day cruise, you can have a lovely holiday and any doubts you may have re tipping and wardrobe can easily be dispelled. If you are looking for a longer cruise, that is a somewhat different story, more on that next week. B. Markson. EXETER TRAVEL CENTRE 476 MAIN ST.
