They were penalized the single point for arriving at one of the check points one minute early. Tied for second spot with five penalty points apiece were Bruce Shaw, Bern McKinley, George Pratt and Al Taylor. Jim and Verla Russell were awarded the novice trophy. They chalked up a total of 166 points in their first attempt at rallying. The most improved award went to Bob and Lorna Russell. With Bob in the navigator's seat, the Russell's were assessed only 53 penalty points. In an earlier rally, the Russell's failed to finish the course when their vehicle became stuck near the Ban- nockburn bridge. Anxiousness proved the downfall of mayor Bruce Shaw in his attempt to win the grand championship, He was assessed three penalty points for leaving one check point three minutes early and had to settle for a four- Page 20 Times-Advocate, October 28, 1.976 way tie for the runner-up position. A special effort prize went to Mrs. Edith Love who was the navigator for her son Maurice, They scored 13 penalty points. A total of 38 vehicles par- ticipated in the event and $190 was turned over to the recreation centre fund. Arn Mathers was in charge of getting the rally cars away from the starting point on the right foot and the check points were manned by Larry Black, Don Finkbeiner and Dwayne Mathers. The third rally of the season is being planned for late November, Arn Mathers said Monday it would likely be held on Sunday, November 28 and would cover another area near Exeter.
