Sponsored it was extremely by the South Huron Recreation Centre fund raising committee, the rally covered 57 miles in South Huron and for a few moments parts of Berth, For at least two cars it also included a visit to Middlesex County, Bill Armstrong and Greg Pfaff visited Lucan on their tour which took them a total of 1.412 miles, John Munn and his partner ... ended the first segment in Parkhill and the second in Zurich. At that point they discovered they should have been in Fullerton and headed there for a fresh start, They hit the finish line at the Usborne township farm of Allan Rundle at 6:30 p,m. some five hours after leaving the starting point at the south end of Exeter. The Munn vehicle travelled.'a total of 190 miles, A very faulty odometer can be blamed for Ron and Elaine Bogart failing to reach the first checkpoint which was located at Woodham. A check of the Bogart van Sunday night showed a discrepancy of one-fifth of a mile on every mile travelled. The officialwinners of the rally were Paul Armstrong and Chuck Ford who accumulated only one Please turn to page 28 CHECK THESE SPECIALS FRESH PORK OR ROASTS LB. LB. She arched her back, then mov- ed forward peering continuously to right, and left. Suddenly she slipped and fell to the ground. As she fell she rolled herself in a little ball, so she wouldn't be hurt. Sometimes she and her friend Larno did this for fun: but today it was not for fun — she just slipped. She picked herself up and walked carefully through the leaves to her favourite tree where she crawled up and hid among its kindly branches. Katie loved to hide and watch the panorama below. Little black bugs whizzed through the air, Saucy mos- quitoes hummed their favourite tunes. Then T.J. the house cat came snif- fing. Suddenly the dog W. Dirj began barking. T.J. showed' her claws while backing up. Hissing sounds filled the air. What was going on? Katie crouched lower, a strange cackling took place — a long legged bird strolled under the tree. What was it? Katie had never seen any bird here al, the farm that looked like that). Suddenly this bird fanned its tail, What beauty — colored eyes gleamed at her — green, blue and gold — truly she was a gorgeous sight. Then Mr. Farmer appeared calling T.J. and W, Dirj to come to him, They sat entranced — then again Mr. Farmer called gently. Obedience brought them to his side. He picked up T.J. and W. Dirj followed silently turning to see if that Creature were following. As they neared the house — once again this queen bird lost his beautiful tail — wherever did it go? When Katie arrived home that night she was excited and told her parents about the beautiful bird and how he lost his tail, They laughed and said it was a proud peacock who had come to live and strut at the farm, She was told not to be frightened. Sometimes the peacock would scream and then Katie was afraid curling herself up and hiding under a friendly leaf. Katie was a lovely little person, only having Larno as a playmate and he always wanted to do things that she couldn't 'do. Mis. Katerpillar told Katie that she could have a Hallowe'en party. Katie was thrilled * she would ask everyone she knew, especially her farm yard friends. They were invited to come in costume on October the thirty-first. There was to be a prize for the best costume, Oh what fun! What could she wear? As the day grew ner, there was great, excitement. Her parents had many goodies for her party; their house was cleaned, everything was ready, Katie could hard- ly wait. The party was to be in the orchard so all her friends could attend. The red cow, the black horse, even W. Dirj and T.J. could not get in their tiny house. Finally the big night arrived. The cow came with a big bonnet and dark glasses. The black horse was carrying his plaid blanket. W. Dirj had worked himself into old blue jeans. . The old goat came with his beard coloured red, likely from the pail of sheep dip that was in the barn, he did look funny! The baby lamb arrived with his nur- sing bottle. Dear old Patrick the pig came with a pail for leftovers to help feed his little ones. Then a strange guest arrived. He had the farmers' boots on, his head held high, he sat down apart from the others. Yes it was Mr. Peacock. Well he was welcome, if he were quiet. They all played gaines and Mrs. Katerpillar brought piles of food: hay for the cow, oats for the horse, a tin can for the goat, a bone for W. Dirj and a saucer of cream for T.J. who had a red bow on her.tail. Where were Larno and Katie? Everyone waited, even Mr. Peacock waited. Mr. and Mrs. Katerpillar smiled and waited. .* Suddenly through the air came two beautiful butterflies. Only Mr, and Mrs. Katerpillar knew whom they were. * * * * Now you have guessed it! I wonder if you could change yourself into a new person? Never again would they have to crawl and hide. They glided into the air and saw all the beautiful world from high up, What beauty th'e good earth had, I wonder sometimes if we looked higher, perhaps, things would look beautiful too. Perhaps we could change ourselves from the cocoon stage into beings of beauty like Katie could, never again to turn into a worm, but always a beautiful butterfly, and happy Hallowe'en, Into a butterfly, you'll be beautiful, Katie and Larno wish you all a safe Let's have a Hallowe'en party, take your treats to some of our shut-ins, turn 4'p • 4 g ' rn , Heinz' Tomato or Veg.
