CAB DRIVER Sag uLane. THE MAGAZINE FOR MEN AUGUST 1975 "VW's new Rabbit is significant because it is a complete departure for Volkswagen, and also because it is the specific type of car that Detroit will be building in the 1980's. The statistics speak for themselves: accommo- dation for four, a seventy-horsepower engine, fuel consumption of thirty-eight mpg (U.S.) and a weight of under two thousand pounds. What they came up with was a car that doesn't have an ounce of fat, one which provides excellent operating economy, as well as perfor- mance and value. Personally, I think that VW's Rabbit is one very good idea ahead of its time." APRIL 1975 "Whole populations of drivers will live for years with this car, strongly impressed by its generally nimble disposition and its sensitive feel of the road through the steering wheel and brake pedal. It slips through city traffic like a bicycle and thrives on the parking-space rem- nants most cars pass by. You can stuff enough groceries for a football team through the rear hatch while the back seat folds and pivots forward out of the way. The only thing you'll need a trailer for is objects too heavy to boost across the high lift-over." Women's League, and the Parish Council are to be congratulated on preparing a successful event, enjoyed by all who attended. On Tuesday, November 18, Mrs. Catherine Morrissey of Mt. Carmel and her daughter Mrs. Mary Bedard of Detroit, travelled to London for a short stay. There they visited Mrs. Bedard's son, Ronald Bedard, and the son of Mrs, Morrissey, Ben Morrissey. The two travellers returned on this past Saturday. Sauble League hockey action was high-lighted by Mt. Carmel's 7-3 victory over Malcolm Welding, the team from Lieury on Sunday, Ndvember 23. Paul Glavin, who also led the goal, scoring when Mt. Carmel trounced Brinsley a short while ago, was very instrumental in Sunday's victory. He popped four goals in the Lieury net, while Larry McCann, Mike Tiernan and Doug Regier each scored single goals for Mt, Carmel. Earlier, on Tuesday, November 18, Mt. Carmel lost a close game with Shipka, by a score of 2-1, and it was Ron Pickering who put Mt. Carmel's single goal on the board. The people of Mt. Carmel would like to express wishes for a speedy recovery to Mr. Charles Dietrich, who is recovering from surgery at St, Joseph's Hospital. Knowing Mr. Dietrich, the only problem will be to prevent him BY PAUL SALMON Although this past weekend has been very hectic and tiring for 40 at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Father Mooney, the Parish Priest Church, one cannot help but envy him. Father Mooney just returned on this past Friday from a vacation in the southern United States, and his tan is visible proof of the sunny, eighty-degree weather which he enjoyed while on the trip. The people of Mt. Carmel like their little village, but I don't think even the most loyal citizen would not liked to have joined Father Mooney, and bask a while in •the sun! While in the South, Father Mooney visited his brother Father Don Mooney, who has a Parish in Houston, Texas. On Saturday, November 22, the very next day after returning from his trip, Father Mooney joined the activities at Novem- berfest, a party attended by the parishioners of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church. The event was well-attended by about 80 couples, who filled the Dashwood Hall for an evening of fun, Country 'Unlimited, a young group of musicians, provided enjoyable dance-music, and after the dance a lunch was enjoyed. Reliable sources, who must also have possessed reliable stomachs, told me that the delicious lunch was more of a small feast. The Catholic • Meeting for exhibit is set for next year By KATHY COOPER ELIMVILLE Elimville II 4-H girls met November 24 at Carol DeJonge's home, A final meeting for working on the exhibit will be on January 5. For discussion, the girls talked about what foods they should be eating for snacks. The foods should be nutritional and low- calorie foods. Karen Morley and Rosemary Miller made Puffy Dutch Minicakes. All members enjoyed them but thought honey or jam should be added for flavor. The leaders checked everyone's books to make sure all meetings were caught up. Persona Is Mr. & Mrs. Lorne Johns, Mr, & Mrs. Murray Coward and Mrs. Floyd Cooper attended the Royal Winter Fair as guests of the Ontario Ministry of Agriculture and Food. ROAD&TRACK Popular Mechanics Sourdough experiences "The most important new import for 1975 is the VW Rabbit. The 1800-pound Rabbit is a mechanical mas- terpiece. It gets up to 60 mph in about 12 seconds— giving it the edge on some V8 subcom- pacts. Its hatchback design provides 24.7 cubic feet of luggage capacity with the rear seat folded. VW got the greatest possible amount of usable interior space into the smallest possible outer shell—and an exterior with some style." MAY 1971 "The winner, and not by a hare (sorry, couldn't resist). This car does it all: it's small, light, roomy and fast, with nimble and respon- sive steering, ride and handling. A modern and sophisticated car with a handsome Guigiaro- designed hatchback body. The Rabbit offers one of the most space-saving mechanical layouts we've seen yet: front-wheel drive, transverse engine and a unique, independent rear suspension.fea- turing an integral anti-roll bar and using so little space it's remarkable. The Rabbit has a solid feel and an ultramodern look to it. Best of all it is almost sinfully en- joyable to drive." By DENISE FLETCHER WINCHELSEA The Meeting of the Elimville III 4-H club was held at Mrs, E. Clayburn's November 18. The roll call was to show the sourdough loaf made for hoine activity and comment on how it turned out or tell of an experience you had while making it, The demonstration was hamburger stacks and egg cups.
