Mayor of Exeter Meeting opens with prayer By MRS. HAROLD DAVIS KIRKTON The ACW met on Thursday evening in the church basement. The meeting opened with hymn and prayers, Mrs. Bill Waghorn gave a reading. Highlights were given of the workshop also the Deanery meeting held in Stratford. A slate of officers was presented. Mrs. Gary Ballard and Craig of Mississauga spent a few days with her parents Mr. & Mrs. Rea Stephens. The Kirkton Women's Institute were guests of Fullarton Institute on Wednesday evening. Mr. Doug Waghorn of St. Marys was guest speaker. Mrs. Wm, J. Blackler, Mr. & Mrs. Burns Blackler, Jayne and David were guests of Mr. & Mrs. Leslie Fairbairn of London on Sunday. The occasion was Miss Diane Fairbairn's birthday. Mr. Jack Clark and Murray Switzer spent Saturday at the Royal. SUMMERS_ GRANTON Monday evening Mrs. Edith Youngson the newly appointed District Deputy of the Canadian Foresters, was honored by her home lodge, Court Valentine, with a smorgasbord supper held at the Forester's Hall. Guest speaker was Norman H. Hill, Public Relations and fraternal director of the Canadian Forester's Life Insurance Society, Brantford. Mr, Hill praised Edith for the dedication she had put into her years of work as a lady Foresterfand wished her success with the high office which she now holds. The speaker dwelt briefly on the main project of the Canadian Foresters, their contribution of funds towards Cancer Research, their objective is to raise $80,000 by July, 1976. Women's Institute news Mrs. Elmer Summers was the hostess for the November meeting of the WI Tuesday, evening. Mrs. Donald Roloson, president was in the chair and conducted the business. The topic being safety, the roll call was A poisonous sub- stance" one should take precautions with, Plans were discussed for summary day for the course "Salute to Vegetables" being held at the Union Gas Building in London, November 25. It was decided that as the collection for the National Institute for the Blind was very gratifying, and as this was the last year that the W.I. would undertake the canvass, the canvassers'would receive a small memento for their years of service to this project. The UCW has offered to canvass for the C.N.I.B. in the future. `Guest speaker was Joanne Dow, public health nurse from Perth County Health Unit Stratford. Her subject was very timely, she spoke on the safety of seat belts for cars. The meeting was convened by Mrs. Hamilton Hodgins and Mrs. Norman Hodgins. Mrs. H. Hodgins gave a reading in connection with the motto "Take a second look you haven't a second life". Mrs. N. Hodgins was responsible for current events. Refreshments were served by the hostess and conveners. Friendly neighbors club The Friendly Neighbors dropped in at the Scout Hall Thursday afternoon. The usual entertainment was enjoyed, cards, shuffleboard and crokinole. During refreshments plans were discussed for an of- ficial opening after Christmas. Junior Farmers news Edgewood Junior Farmers held their annual euchre, at the Mason's Hall Saturday evening. The number that turned up for this event was disappointing. The committee in charge was Keith and Joyce Thomson, and Peter and Linda Blom. Prize winners for the euchre were high score, Mrs. Nora Wissel; lone hands, Mrs. Mary Wallis; and the door prize was won by Mrs. Nellie Blom. Granton girls receive Honors on Achievement Day Congratulations are extended to Mrs. Diane O'Shea, on receiving her certificate for five years leadership of 4-H groups at Achievement Day at Arva Saturday, also to Gwen Hodgins on receiving her Provincial Honors certificate at the same time.
