The Exeter Times-Advocate, 1975-08-14, Page 19DUTCH TREAT — Jeanne Symons, 24, and Elisa Timmermans, 19, Maasbre, Holland are guests of Mr. and
Mrs. Harry Gielen of RR 2, Crediton. Amazed by the size of Canadian farms, the girls say that in Holland "If
you have 30 cows you are a big farmer." The average size of a Dutch farm is 30 acres and most are small
scattered parcels although the government is attempting to consolidate units, T-A photo.

October for
peony division
Don't neglect your perennial
border now if you want it to be
beautiful next year, says D. M.
Sangster, Ontario, Ministry of
Agriculture and Food hor-
tieulturist.
Get out of that lawn, chair, put
on your gardening gloves, and cut
off all faded perennial blooms,
This will not only make your
border look better, but will
prevent seed setting, Remove all
withered and dried foliage too,
July and August are ideal
months for dividing iris plants,
but you should wait until October
before dividing your peonies, and
until next spring to divide your
late-flowering chrysanthemums
and delphiniums.
When all flowering has ended
and most leaves have been killed
by frost, you should cut your
perennial plants off close to the
ground and remove all weeds and
debris from the border. Cedar
boughs or other brush hold the
snow well if they are placed on
the border after the ground
freezes.
