The local club reached the
second round of play by winning
five of six games in preliminary
play and tying the other contest.
They scored 22 goals while
having only six scored against
them.
The Exeter club along with 13
other teams will be battling for
the four positions in the next
round. The four successful teams
will compete with teams from
Baltimore, Fort Wayne, Los
Angeles, Montana, Newark, New
York, Rochester, San Diego,
Toledo, Toronto Italia,
Valleyfield and Vancouver.

bowling greens this week as he
took the jitney championships
Thursday and Saturday night.
Tuesday's winner was Clarence
Down.
Thursday, Etherington scored
two wins, a plus of 20 and 32
aggregate to take top honours,
Arnie Bennedyke was in the
runner-up spot a 15 plus and
aggregate of 28 to go with two
Following on the prize list were
John Wilson, Leone Brock,
Lillian Pym, Wilfred Shapton,
Boyle Elgie, Marg Wein,
Lawrence Wein, Gertrude
Hamilton and Bob Elgie.

To win Tuesday's jitney
Clarence Down amassed a score
of two wins, a plus of 15. and 28
aggregate. Deadlocked for
second spot with the same
aggregate but a lower plus of 11
were Leone Brock and John
Wilson.
Rounding out the two game
winners were Mabel Skinner,
Anna Ballantyne, Olive Harvey,
Russ Snell and Tom Yellow.
Centennials
are thumped
The Exeter Centennials were
on the short end of a 9-1 score to
West Lorne in Ausable Valley
soccer league play Sunday af-
ternoon.
The league leading West Lorne
club took a 4-1 lead at half-time
over the shorthanded Exeter
club, Several of the Centennials
were out of action because of
injuries and holidays.
The lone Exeter goal came in
the first half on a picture goal by
Dave "Twinkletoes" Worby.
The final two league games of
the season for the Centennials
will be played on their home pitch
at the Canadian Canners field on
Wellington street.
Taxandria will supply the
opposition for a contest Sunday at
6 p.m, and the following Sunday
Nairn will supply the opposition.
Boys participate
in tennis tourney
Exeter tennis club sponsored
its first tennis tournament,
Saturday, when junior and senior
boys lined up againsteach other.
David Shaw defeated his
brother Bruce 8-6 to win the 10 to
12 year-old class after downing
Dave Underwood in the semi-
finals.
In the two semi-finals of 13 to 15
year-olds Perry Pooley won over
Dave Bogart 8-1, while Randy
Parsons upset Paul Pooley 8-2.
After a close match with Perry
Pooley in the finals, Randy
Parsons came out the winner
with a score of 8-5.
All these boys could be mat-
ched with young players who
have had much longer tennis
experience, and with their in-
structor deserve a lot of credit
and encouragement.
Another tournament is planned
for later in August.

The Crediton pee wees are one
game down in their best-of-three
final playoff for the Western
Ontario Athletic Association
district championship.
Monday night, the Crediton
youngsters kuffered a 20-a loss to
Seaforth. The second game was
played last night, Wednesday.
The Crediton scoring was
confined to the first and fourth
innings. Steve Dinney tripled,
Andy Nedza and Barry Becker
doubled and Torn Dinney added a
single in the first frame when
Crediton scored five times.
The final three runs came in
the fourth when the same three
batters singled and were helped
along by a two base hit from the
bat of Tom Dinney.
Andy Nedza and Tom Dinney
shared pitching duties for
Crediton.
The Crediton pee wees wasted
little time in eliminating
Wingham in the first round of
Western Ontario Athletic
Association playoffs this week.
In the opening game in
Crediton Tuesday, the Crediton
youngsters scored an impressive
21-3 victory and the following
night back in Huron's radio and
television town the score was 12-
3,
The Crediton club will noWmeet
the winner of a current Dash-
wood-Seaforth series in the next
round.
Three big innings powered the
Crediton club to their opening 21-
3 win, With Crediton leading 2-1
after two innings of play, the
winners broke out with six runs in
the bottom of the third. They
added two more in the fourth and
then broke the game 'wide open
with five markers in the fifth and
another half dozen in the sixth.
Andy Nedza doubled and
scored the first Crediton run in
the opening inning. In the
Crediton third Paul Wein led off
with a single and was able to
come around to score on a
hit from. the bat of Jerry Dewan.
Five hits produced the six run
rally in the third. Andy Nedza
contributed two singles to the one
inning attack. Torn Dinney and
Tony Underhill slammed doubles
and Jerry Dewan and Ralph
Wells added singles,
Steve Dinney walked and Tom
Dinney singled and scored in the
fourth, Also adding one base
blows were Ralph Wells and Tony
Underhill.
In the Crediton fifth, Ralph
Wells tripled for the big blow,
Getting singles were Tom Din-
ney, Andy Nedza and Tim
Ralph Wells was back with a
home run in the sixth for his
fourth base hit of the game. Andy
Nedza with his fifth hit in the
sixth was Crediton's top batter.
Tom Dinney went the distance
on the pitching mound for
Crediton and held the visitors to
seven well scattered hits while
chalking up a total of 10
strikeouts.
In the second contest in
Wingham, the Crediton
youngsters scored at least one
run in every inning but the sixth
on the way to a 12-3 decision.
Barry Becker and Steve
Dinney were the Crediton leaders
at the plate each scoring three
times. Getting two runs apiece
were Andy Nedza and Tony
Underhill while Tom Dinney and
Ralph Wells each crossed the
plate on one occasion.

second, fifth and seventh innings.
