return from west

Vacation Bible school con-
tinues this week with "Family
Night" being held Thursday, July
17. Come and see what the
children have done, Last week's
enrollment was 104 with an
average attendance of 98 and a
staff of 15.
Sue Ann Becker, Elizabeth
Datars and Brian Rader were at
Camp Pioneer, Angola, New
York State last week.
A belated celebration was held
at the Village Inn, Grand Bend,
for Milton Haugh who recently
had his 80th birthday, These
present were Mr. & Mrs, Ross
Haugh, Dan & Lynda of Crediton;
Mr. & Mrs. Lorne Ilaugh and
Larry of Exeter and Mr. & Mrs.
Mike Burke and Susan of
Brampton,
Mr. 8, Mrs. Mike Burke and
Susan of Brampton, spent the
weekend with Milt Haugh.
Mr, & Mrs. Jack Gaiser, Kim
and Lyn vacationed last week at
Niagara Falls and at Camp-

have returned home following a
most enjoyable bus trip to the
west coast. They visited many
places of interest but the most
outstanding were the Calgary
Stampede in Edmonton, where
they saw the Diefenbaker
homestead and the R,C,M.P,
Museum, Banff where they
visited Norquay mountain and
saw the ski lifts and Jasper where
they visited the ice fields and had
a snowmobile ride. The Buchart
Gardens on Vancouver Island
were most beautiful.

Gates were Wednesday visitors
with Mrs. Jean Walper, Sunday
visitors were Mrs, Laura Willett
of Sarnia and Mrs. Ethel Bauman

returned home from South Huron

Kitchener, spent the weekend

program is working out very
well," says Mrs. Esther Salmon,
superintendent of the school. "I
was a bit leery of taking on the
job without the help of a minister
but the teachers are doing a
tremendous job,"

The summer meeting of Caven
Presbyterian Church Women was
held on Monday, July 14 with
president Mrs. Ersman
presiding.
The devotional on different
countries, versions of the 23rd
Psalm was taken by Mrs. Sillery,
assisted by Mrs. D. Millar, Mrs,
Holland, Mrs. Mercer and Mrs.
Strang.
The September meeting will be
a pot luck supper. Plans were
made to have a fowl supper on
Monday, October 6.
The meeting was favoured with
a musical number from the
quartet Mrs. Sillery, Mrs. Moir,
Mrs. Hoffman and Mrs. Merkley
who gave their rendition of "Long
Long Age garbed in centennial
costumes.
Mrs. Strang told us of the bus
trip several of the ladies went on
to Toronto as part of Centennial
year activities. They visited
Ewart College, Knox College,
Presbyterian Church Offices,
Evangel Hall, Scott Mission and a
Presbyterian Chinese Church.

teered as teachers are Cathy
Becker and Lindy Becker who
teach the nursery school, Mrs,

planned time table and effective
discipline, "We do not allow the
children to run in the.church and
they work and talk quietly in
class," said Mrs. Salmon. "We
have a sports program and the
children can run and shout
outdoors all they want,"
Freedom of choice is a main
part of the program. Many varied
activities were planned. Selection
of an activity is left up to the
individual. Kite making, bead-
work, weed collages and sand
painting were just a few of the
crafts to choose from.
The junior high group took
instruction in pottery, and the
weaving of wall hangings at Ruth
Ann Merner's craft shop in Dash-
wood. "I really enjoy teaching
youngsters this age," says Ruth
Ann. "One little girl came up to
me the other day and told me how
happy she was to be in my class.
It's nice to know your efforts are
appreciated."
The ten day program began
July 7, Monday to Friday from 9
to 12 until July 18, Enrollment is
high with 104 children attending
between the ages of three to
fourteen. Listening to comments
Eleanor Salmon are in charge of
the primary group. Vicky Miller
and Laurie Becker teach the
juniors while Mrs. Karen Reder
and Mrs. Marie Tieman instruct
the pre-teens and the junior high
children. Margaret Hogarth is in
charge of the sports program.
The mid-morning snack is
supervised by Mrs. Elda Koehler,
Seniors stage
euchre party
A very successful euchre
sponsored by the Well Come Inn
was held Friday, July 11 in the
clubrooms on John St. Ten tables
were played. Prizes were
awarded to Mrs. Georgina
Webster for high ladies. Mrs.
Wm, Lamport playing a man's
card was awarded men's high.
Mary Kooy won ladies high lone
hands and Tom Kooy men's high
lone hands.
Mrs. Jean Nnels won the
lucky draw on a cushion. A good
time was reported.Next'partywill

events and the town bulletin
board,
The school wishes to thank the
ladies who made donations and
baked delicious treats. for the
snacks.
"I only wish we could have
recruited a few young men,"
commented Mrs. Salmon, "The
ladies are doing their best but a
male influence is a help and a
benefit to the children.
The children's offering will go
to buy coloring books for the Sick
Children's Hospital in London.
A special service is being held
July 17 at 8 p.m. Parents,
relatives and friends are invited
to take part and to view the
children's work.
