Beach wear, blouses and skirts, Kaftans and hostess gowns were designed by Carol B. de Gomez tof the Muchas Cosas Boutique, Puerta Vallarta, Mexico. The show called a Mexican Fashion Fiesta was sponsored by the Sun Shop Grand Bend, where the clothes were displayed for sale immediately following the Show. Oohs and ahs were heard as the ladies viewed the exclusive collection. with hand made lace, intricately tucked cotton and colorful hand embroidery made by Mexican women. A native of Oakville, Ontario Ms. de Gomez has been living in. Mexico for the past 12 years. She opened her boutique in Puerta Vallarta six years ago and has gained an international reputation for her unique fashions. The clothes are designed with an eye for line and a carefree easy fit. Popular for cruise and hostess wear they look good on women of any age. The graceful models who displayed the clothes to their best advantage were, Mrs. Ivan Luther, Grand Bend; Mrs, Robert Carter of Southcott Pines; Ms. Carol Reese., Southcott Pines and Ms. Lynn Panin of Michigan, Carol also modelled many of her own fashions. Mrs. Robert MacWilliams, of Essex acted as commentator and her witty comments and sly puns amused the spectators adding a flair to the show, Another highlight was an authentic Mexican dance by 13 year old Linsey de Gomez, Carol's daughter of Puerta Vallarta, Mexico. The collection was an instant success with area ladies, many of whom will be sporting the designs at parties and social events this summer. Registration for members in the recently formed Exeter Tennis Club will be held at the tennis courts this Saturday morning and if interest up to this point is any indicator, mem- bership will be high. Art Whilsmith,a member of the club's executive, told The Times- Advocate Tuesday that the club would have a two-fold purpose, to provide the opportunity to play tennis and to provide a social atmosphere, Mr. Whilsmith and recreation director Jim McKinlay stressed that anyone is welcome to come out and join the club. Most of the new club's members will be brand new at the game and beginners will have lots of players of their own level to play with as they improve their game. Mr. McKinlay recounted how 18 persons interested in forming a club attended a meeting held July 9 at the Exeter Public School. A subsequent meeting elected an executive to handle the club's affairs. Pat Cottrell is president with Anne Dingwell as vice- president. Janice Frayne will handle the duties of secretary- treasurer, Membership chair- man is Al Rankin and Art Whilsmith is tournament chair- man, The executive is for an interim term only. The club activities will be reviewed at the end of this season before any permanent decisions are made. Membership in the club will be $10 for a single person or $25 for a family membership. For the remainder of this season, fees have been reduced to $5 for single and $12 for family. One of the biggest jobs the club will have is educating tennis players to the etiquette of the game. Hopefully, an article on the finer points of the game's rules will be published in the Times-Advocate soon and a weekly tennis column is being contemplated. The recreation committee administers the new courts in Exeter, termed by Mr, Whilsmith as "two of the best courts in western Ontario", A timetable is being drawn up to provide time for public use, instruction and club activities, At present, the club has been allocated time on Sunday afternoon and evening, Monday evening, Wednesday evening and Friday evening. Currently instruction is being offered Monday to Thursday during the afternoon but Mr. McKinlay hopes to extend the program to include Tuesday and Thursday evening instruction as well. Cost of the lessons is $12 for eight one hour sessions, Another advantage of belonging to a club, according to Mr. Whilsmith, will be a reduced rate on equipment purchased as a club member. Both the recreation director, Mr. McKinlay, and the members of the newly appointed executive are enthusiastic about the new club and feel confident that tennis will be a very popular recreation program. If you are interested, be at the tennis courts Saturday morning or check the advertisement in this edition for numbers to call for more information.
