Malone, Manager Huron Industrial Park Her sporting interests at school include basketball, hockey, skiing, badminton and track and field. She was an athletic rep on the student council. Loretta, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Louis Ayotte presently works part-time at the Blue Water Rest Home in Zurich and plans to attend the University of Guelph in the fall in physical education. Another candidate from grade 13 is Mathilda Martens, RR 1 Dashwood, daughter of Martin Martens and the late Mrs. Magdalena Martens. Mathilda enjoys swimming and dancing and is a member of the ski club and a prefect at South Huron. She is an active member in 4-H clubs. After graduation from South Huron, she plans on attending the University of Guelph and hopes to become an elementary school teacher. The fifth grade 13 student is Deb Wooden, daughter of SHDHS principal J. L. and Dianne Wooden. Deb is this year's school year book editor and very active in athletic activities. She has participated in basketball, volleyball, badminton and track and field and has taught ballet classes to area youngsters for several years. Deb will be employed this summer as a lifeguard at the beach at Grand Bend. She plans to attend the University of Western Ontario in the fall and hopefully will become a lawyer. The first of two candidates from grade 12 is Kathleen Gielen, RR 2, Crediton. Her parents are Mr. and Mrs. Harry Gielen. Kathleen has been prominent at South Huron as a member of thercross country, gymnastics and track and field teams and is secretary of the present student council. Active in 4-H work as both member and leader she has completed provincial honours and has a total of 14 clubs to her credit. After graduation from South Huron, she expects to follow the nursing profession. The seventh Queen candidate is 18 year-old Ann Johns, daughter • of Mr. and Mrs. Lorne Johns, RR 1 Centralia. Ann has completed 12 4-H clubs, and received recognition with provincial honours. She is playing softball this summer with the Usborne girls team. She will graduate this year from the South Huron business course and plans to attend Marvel Hairdressing school in London. Instead of a pot of gold at the end of a rainbow, one of the seven contestants will find a Queen's crown at South Huron District High School Friday night. The theme of the annual At Home dance will be the Wizard of Oz and the stage on which the newly named Queen will take her place at the stroke of midnight will be decorated as a rainbow. The entrance to the gym- nasium will be dressed up as a hurricane and inside visitors will find good and bad forests, a corn field and a castle for the wicked witch of the west. To the right of the rainbow stage will be emerald gates. The main characters the Wizard of Oz will be Dorothy and Dodo. Nomination of the seven Princesses was completed last week and secret balloting to name the 1975 SHDHS Queen is being held this week. At the stroke of midnight, Friday, student council president John Wuerth will announce the winner. The new Queen will be crowned by last year's winner Melonie Veal. One of the contestants is a grade 13 student, Laura Johns. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Howard Johns, RR 1, Woodham. Laura has been a member of the South Huron gymnastic and cheerleading teams and is currently captain of the cheer leaders. In addition she has taught recreational gymnastics for three years and has been an Exeter summer playground • leader along withSunday School activities and gaining of provincial honours in 4-H club work. When she graduates from South Huron, Laura plans on attending university, taking a kinesielogy course. Joan Pym is another grade 13 candidate. Her parents are Mr. and Mrs. Howard Pym, RR 1 Centralia. During her years at South Huron she has participated with the girls hockey team and the ski club. Joan is active in 4-H, in homemaking and agriculture and is assistant organist at Elimville United Church and is taking grade eight in paino. Last summer she was em- ployed as a counsellor at a Goderich summer camp. Joan plans on going to university in the fall taking General Arts and plans on becoming a teacher or social worker. From RR 2 Zurich, Loretta Ayotte makes a bid for school queen.
