The Chamber is also behind the
Buffaloburger Fest which will be
staged in Grand Bend on Friday,
June 13 and Saturday June 14.
Recently treasurer David Nelder
• purchased a buffalo 'on-the-hoof'
from a ranch near Peterborough.
The Fest will start at noon on
Friday with a businessmen's
luncheon on the beach. Buf-
faloburgers will be served right
through until 11 p.m. Also in the
evening a campfire, sing song
and dancing on the beach will be
enjoyed.
Saturday it's buffaloburgers
again from noon to midnight, a
treasure hunt for the "under
tens" at 1:00 p.m., a body-
painting contest for the "under-
sixteens" at 3:00 p.m. and a
mayors and reeves Olympic
physique contest at five. All
activities take place on the
beach. In the evening, a camp-
fire, singsong and dance will
again be held. On Saturday, the
Chamber of Commerce have
received permission to hold a
sidewalk sale and flea market.
The Chamber is also spon-
soring a draw for four moped
bikes to be given away during the
summer. The first will be given
away on the Saturday of the
Buffaloburger Fest with one each
long weekend until Labour Day
when two will be drawn for.
Tickets will be available from
many sources in Grand Bend and
secretary-manager Tom Webster
is looking for salesmen to work on
a commission basis.
Behind the scenes
Work is continuing behind the
scenes. According to Mr. Webster
a volunteer team of Norma
Baird, Cyrilla Van Bruaene,
Brenda Mawson and Marie
McKinnon mailed out over 300
letters and brochures to potential
visitors enquiring about events
and accommodation.
Al Best, chairman of the
membership committee, has
reported that fifty paid up
members are on the Chamber's
membership roll.

Request for details declined,
offer financial statements
The Grand Bend. village council
agreed to turn over financial
statements covering the past
three years to Ted Whipp, editor
of The North Lambton Sun, The
paper had requested by letter the
community's budgets from 1972
along with a breakdown of the
works department budget and
municipal employee salaries,
Council declined to provide the
employee wages to the
newspaper. Council asked Mr.
Whipp, present at the meeting,
why he needed the figures but
were not satisfied with answer he
gave,
"I feel I am entitled to the
information or at least access 'to
the information said Mr. Whipp,
commenting he wanted the in-
formation for news story.
Reeve Bob Sharen said the
council could hardly authorize
the expenditure of taxpayers'
money for Mr. Whipp, par-
ticularly when he was unwilling
to inform theM of the nature of
the article,
"You are not telling us what
you want to write. There is , a
possible invasion of privacy. I
don't know why we should spend
tax dollars to give it to you." said
Reeve Sharen.
In a motion passed by council
authorizing the financial
statement be turned over to the
North Lambton Sun,council
agreed to contact the Ministry of
Treasury, Economics and
Intergovernmental Affairs and a
solicitor regarding the situation,
Councillor Harold Green,
commenting that the story
sounded like "a shoot down
story", said he could see no
reason why wages three years
ago were newsworthy,
"Wages are a personal affair,"
said the reeve.
New councillor Robert Simpson
suggested that if the story was
going to be detrimental to the
community he wanted "no part of
it".
"If you want to know what a
former employee was making, go
ask him." suggested councillor
Bill Baird,
Councillor Simpson said he felt
the newspaper should receive the
same information as available to
any taxpayer.
