Much of her material came directly from a missionary nurse from Nepal, Miss Dulcie Van- tham. Mrs. VanArenthals also led discussion on the choosing of four Live-Love projects for 1975. Mrs. Harold Cobleigh assisted in the meeting by reading the Scripture and a poem "Spring Knocks on the Door". During the business meeting chaired by Mrs. Ross McRoberts, a report was received on the fashion show "Waltzing into Spring" to be held in the Biddulph School Gym on Wednesday evening, May 14. The purchase of six dozen souvenir spoons for the 50th Lifelong resident passes away The funeral of Harold Nethourld Butler, Sr„ was held from the Murdy Funeral Home on Saturday, April 12, with Rev. Ray Brewster officiating. Interment was in Sauble Hill Cemetery, Biddulph Twp, Mr. Butler was a life-long resident of the village until he entered Sunnyside Haven Nur- sing Home, Strathroy, last month. He was the husband of the late Helen Sloman, father of Harold, Jr., and Edward, of Lucan, Elizabeth of Chatham, step- father of Raymond of Ottawa and Derena Durant of London. The pallbearers were Stewart Triebner, Bruce Cann, Milford Prouty , Milne Eizenga, Clarence Frost and Donald Jolly. Sacrament of infant baptism was observed at the Lucan United Church at the morning service when Craig Andrew, infant son of Don and Diane Williams, Beech Street, was baptised. Rev. Ewart Madden continued his series from the book of Romans quoting the words of Paul "I am not ashamed of the gospel: it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who has faith." God has prepared a way of salvation, Jesus said "Ask and it shall be given," The chimes were used beautifully and freely during the service, The hour-long, bi-weekly evening "Gospel Sing" was enjoyed by those present with Mrs. Madden leading the singing and Mrs. David Park at the piano. Rev. & Mrs. Madden sang several duets and the brief Randy Paul 326 Beech St., LUCAN Phone 2274584 meditation was a story of Margaret, a 15 year old cancer patient who found Christ and for the balance of her life, glowed with an inner strength. -The service closed with the use of a portion of a lovely recording "Alleluia - Let's Just praise the Lord." Pentecostal John Armitage led the singing at both services at the Pen- tecostal Holiness Church, with his wife at the piano. At the morning service, Rev. Ray Brewster speaking from Genesis 5: 22 told his congregation that to walk with God one must obey and please God in all things. At the evening service Joan Lockyer and Cathy Hopps sang a duet to guitar accompaniment by Joan and Mr. Brewster spoke from Acts 16: 22-31 saying that if you praise the Lord in the midst of misfortune you will lead others to know Him. Two special announcements were made in connection with the work of the Church - A Youth Rally "Jesus Is" will be held on Saturday, April 19 in Kitchener, All young people are invited to contact Mr. Brewster for further information. Mark this date on your calendar May 4 a film "Russia Today" will be shown in the Revival Centre. This is a film of Christians living in Russia and how the Bible is distributed to them. Weekend guests with Mrs. Catherine Fischer included Mrs. Leona Rader and Mrs. Charles Theil of Zurich, Mrs. Thomas Thompson, Anne and Tommie, Ruth Chisolm, Mr. & Mrs. Harold Fischer and Holly, Mr. & Mrs. Larry Roden, Kennon and Jamie and Mr. & Mrs. James Taylor, all of London, Midgets are `6' champions The Lucan midgets won the Shamrock "A" trophy for the fourth consecutive year when their Belmont opponents con- ceded. The two teams were tied at a goal apiece in a playoff contest in the third period when a fight broke out. A player from each team was banished and the Belmont coach fearing more players would be suspended from further OMHA play decided to pull his team off the ice. The highest scoring game of the year at the Lucan arena was chalked up just before the ice was removed for the summer. Mike Wraith took on the Lucan girls team and skated away with a 27-9 victory. It wasn't entirely a chauvinistic-libbers battle as Bonnie Wood assisted Mike with some great goal tending efforts. Mary Jane Martens led the girls scoring attack with three goals. Marlene Severy was next with a two goal effort and singles were notched by Wendy Kraul, Sheila Smith, Brenda Parnell and Mary Duenk, The annual Campaign and Education meeting for the Lucan- Seniors go bowling Those Seniors who bowl each second Tuesday are really en- joying it both those who have bowled years ago, and those who have never thrown a ball. All Seniors in the community are invited to come on April 22 from 2-4 at the Lucan Alleys. On Thursday, euchre was enjoyed at the regular meeting of the Sunshine Group as a variety' of crafts were being done in the "Busy Buddies'' group. The lovely head work, done by Mrs. Roy Zinn, will be taught when Mrs. Zinn returns from Florida. If you are interested please call 227-4916. Mr. & Mrs. Louis Raycraft of Clandeboye were welcomed back, after each of them having been hospitalized. A guest was Mrs. Lillian Royston of Olds, Alberta, who was visiting her cousin, Mrs. Guy Ryan. R. Disher set damages at $1,200. In another Friday accident, Constable B. D, Munro listed damages at $30 when a vehicle driven by Robert Johnston, Clinton struck a sign post at the Clandeboye curve on Highway 4 at 10.30 a.m. Saturday at 8 p.m. vehicles driven by John Upwood, RR 4 Parkhill and Courtland Hudson, RR 1 Arva collided on Highbury Avenue, a half mile north of Concession 9 in London township. Constable W, T. Hodgins set damages at $1,400. Sunday evening on Highway 7 at the junction of Perth County road 25, a van driven by Alan Kraul, Hamilton was forced off the road and struck a highway sign, Constable W. R. Disher estimated damages at $650. Three vehicles were involved in a Tuesday afternoon accident on Highbury, a quarter mile north of Concession 8 in London township, Vehicles driven by Grant Newby, RR 8 London and Marian Smibert, RR 3 Ilderton collided and a piece of flying debris struck and broke the windshield of a third vehicle driven by Tammy Packham, RR 3 Granton, Constable W. T. Hodgins was the investigating officer and listed damages at $1,500. Minor damages of $100 were sustained. Wednesday at 7 p.m, when vehicles driven by Clarence Pearce and John Kueps, both of RR 3 Ilderton collided on the Colbert's service station parking lot on Highbury at Concession 9, London township. Constable Hodgins investigated. During the week detachment officers investigated a total of 53 occurrences and laid five charges under the Liquor Control Act and one person was charged with operating a motor vehicle while his ability was impaired. President Len Maslen, as chairman welcomed the over 60 persons present and introduced Don Brandt, the Field Secretary for London-Middlesex Unit, who showed a film of 1974 special events, including The Dance in the Lucan Arena. Mrs. Elmer Summers of Granton, a member of the Education Committee introduced Dr. Kay Stavraky of the Department of Epidemiologyand Preventative Medicine, University of Western Ontario, who spoke on "Intestinal Can- cer", Dr. Stavraky was a most in- teresting speaker as she told, in laymen's terms, of the results of research done in many countries. Her talk was illustrated by a few slides and an excellent question and answer period followed. Mrs. M. H. Hodgins, one of the campaign chairpersons, spoke to the volunteer canvassers, ex- plaining the new receipt books, etc. and urging them to cover every home in the community. Mrs. Summers, as a cancer patient, told of her experiences as a patient and urged early diagnosis of any unusual symp- toms, Mrs. Lloyd Mason and Mrs. Al Cocquyt, assisted by other members, convened the coffee and doughnut hour. Cancer dance is successful Couples enjoyed music provided by Branch President Len Maslen at the annual Cancer Society Dance on Saturday evening at the Arena. A large Caducca Banner and strings of penants decorated the stage and one wall of the hall, The tables were decorated with handcrafted daffodils and floating candles and many posters adorned the walls. The door prize was won by Mrs. Jack Beard of Lucan. Many thanks to everyone who patronized the dance and a special thanks to the members of the Junior Farmers who served refreshments. Special thanks also to the Arena Board for donating the use of the Arena and to all members of the Executive who assisted in any way.
