represented and the first great-
grandchild, Trudy Young eight
months stole the show as she
trundled herself about in her
walker. Mr. & Mrs. Jack Young
and family of Sudbury were the
only absentees.
Fifty-four members of the
Holmes family held their
Christmas gathering at the
Lucan Legion Hall on Sunday
December 29.
A lovely Christmas Eve
candlelight pageant, directed by
Rev. Ewart Madden was enjoyed
by a large congregation in the
United Church.

of the Church and included;

sang many carols during the
service and also the junior choir
sang "Go tell it on the Mountain!'
Mrs. Alec Jones sang "Jesu
Bambino" and the two choirs
sang together "The First Noel."
At the 11 p.m. service Rev.
Ewart Madden conducted a
"silent communion" with in-
strumental music by the organ
and flute providing a background
as the congregation entered into
the spirit of quiet worship at the
table in groups of eight or ten.
Janis Kestle of Clandeboye
assisted the organist.
"Joy." Arden. Bryan rendered
two selections on her violin.
In place of a sermon a play that
was presented at the general
meeting of the UCW was
repeated. "A Modern Christmas
Carol," this play carried a very
thought prevoking message.

Teach, Listen and Learn, taken

Lucan council
Continued from front page
to the storage tank or tower.
The inspection was just a
routine check. An additional
recommendation of bi-monthly
checking of treated and un-
treated water in the system for
chemicals and bacteria was
recommendedbut,Mr.Thompson
advised council that checks are
being made twice a week by the
Board of Health.
At the final council meeting of
the year, members also passed
the swimming pool bylaw to
regulate fencing, construction
and filling of swimming pools in
the village, All homeowners
installing pools will be required
to obtain a building permit from
the village and to comply with all
of the recommendations in the
by-law.
It was reported that there had
been several complains about
snowmobilers in the village and
council has received some
requests to ban them entirely.
Reeve Hearn said that although,
for some, the banning would be
an idea situation, it would be
impossible to ban the
snowmobiles in town 100 percent.
Councillor Harry Wraith
pointed out that many people
came to small towns because
regulations on things such , as
snovithobiles were not as strict.
He compared the problem of
snowmobiles with the problems
caused by dogs in the village.
Council sent a resolution to the
provincial government stating
that they did not concur with the
proposed boundary changes for
the provincial ridings in their
area. It was the opinion of the
members that to be merged with
Huron County to the north would
be completely satisfactory. They
preferred that the boundaries not
be changed but, said that if the
boundaries had to be changed
they would like to see all of
Middlesex Cdunty as one riding
with the city of London having
three ridings to itself.
It was felt that this would give
the best representation to the
rural voters in Middlesex County.
