teams competing in four categories.
EMHA president Ron Horn and his cohorts have lined
up two full days of hockey activity and added a bit of extra

The second annual Exeter
Sportsmen's Dinner scheduled
for the Exeter Legion Hall on
Tuesday, February 4 promises to
be bigger and better than a year
ago.
The 1974 dinner sponsored by
the Exeter Lions Club provided
close to 53,500. for crippled kids
work locally and in Ontario.
The main speaker will be Jack
Donohue head coach of Canada's
national basketball team. He will
also be appearing at the London
Rotary dinner the night before.
Lions dinner chairman Lloyd
Ross and his hard working
committee have contacted a lot of
sports personalities and will have
a good array of speakers.
The master of ceremonies for
the 1975 dinner will be Bruce
Murray of St. Marys. Bruce is a
district governor of the Lions and
is a top after dinner speaker in
his own right.
While confirmations have not
been received from some of the
proposed guests chances are
most of them will appear here.
Glen Weir of Dorchester and
the Montreal Alouettes is ex-
pected to attend. Mike Widger of
the same football team will be
attending the London function
and may also come to Exeter.
The Montreal Expos who have
done a lot of trading in recent
weeks will be represented in
Lining up celebrities
An article on this same page tells of some of the sports
celebrities being currently lined up by Exeter Lions club for
their second annual Sportsmen's Dinner.
The main speaker will be Jack Donohue, coach of
Canada's national basketball team and we would like to
pass on a little information about Jack,
In a nutshell, Donohue is a likeable, funny man and a
superb after dinner speaker. On top of this he is a great
basketball coach and a winner. His three year tenure as
coach of the Canadian team includes an impressive won-
loss record of 55-29 compiled against the best basketball
teams in the world. Included in this total are victories over
Mexico, Yugoslavia, Poland, Czechoslovakia and Spain.
Donohue led the Canadian squad to an eighth place
finish in the. 1974 world championships. Four Canadian
losses by a total of 10 points were the difference between
placing eighth and winning a bronze medal,
Jack's college coaching career was spent exclusively at
Holy Cross College in Massachusetts. His teams recorded
108 victories as opposed to only 64 defeats. In the 1969-70
season he was voted coach of the year in the eastern region.
Donohue coached teams have never experienced a losing
season.
His schoolboy coaching record is even more impressive
with 250 victories as opposed to a mere 46 defeats at two
New York City schools.
While at Power Memorial his teams at one point went
71 straight games without a loss.
Prior to coming to Canada, Donohue had extensive ex-
perience with International basketball. He conducted
clinics in 11 countries as well as being named an official
observer for the German Basketball Federation at the 1971
European championships.
Lions dinner chairman Lloyd Ross tells us the
possibilities of Fred Shero coach of the Philadelphia Flyers
also coming here are good. Flight schedules have been
decked and it would be possible to get Shero back to New
York in time for a Wednesday night game against the
Rangers after spending Monday night at the London dinner
and Tuesday here.
In closing we would wish everyone a very Merry
Christmas and a Happy New Year.
May 1975 be successful for all area sporting ventures,
Everybody can't win, but let's have the losers come up with
smiles. 3
