The White Gift Service in the
United Church en Sunday mor-
ning was under the charge of the
Sunday School.
"Christmas Then and Now"
was the theme of the service and
leaders were Margaret Wilson,
Janet Gaunt, and Brian Hicks.
Karen Skinner was the
narrator for the Nativity Pan-
toinime presented by the Willing
Workers class. Taking part were
Penny Smith, Nancy Tindall,
Linda Wilson, Chris Beaton,
Dianne Skinner, Pearl I3uswell,
Andy Beaton, Daren McFalls and
Jeff Greb.
The story "Once Upon A
Christmas" was read by Donna
Wilson. Readings were in-
terspersed with the singing of
Christmas Carols. The offering
was received and White Gifts
were presented and dedicated.
The choir sang an anthem.
Ushers were Fay Blair, Ann
Beaton, Allan Powe and Donald
Wilson.

Park and Joan, Mrs., Ron Mit-
chell of Ailsa Craig. also five
grandchildren, Larry Kowalchuk
of Calgary, Reed Kowalchuk,
Huron Park, and Wayne, Dennis

Authority budget may
jump quarter million

Around 85 attended the
Christmas Ecumenical meeting
Tuesday evening at the Anglican
Parish Hall. Hostesses were the
ladies of the Immaculate Heart of
Mary Church assisted by the
ladies of the Anglican Church,
Mrs, John Peters chaired the
meeting.
The choir sang several num-
bers and the audience joined in
singing Christmas Carols.
Mauriet Smeekens read "The
Christmas Story".
Church of God Ladies meet
The Church of God ladies held a
Christmas party Wednesday
evening at the home of Mrs.
Kenneth McGregor with 30 at-
tending. Various games were
played, Christmas carol sung
and refreshments served, An
exchange of Christmas gifts was
enjoyed.
Twenty one ladies met in the
United Church Thursday af-
ternoon for the regular U.C.W.
meeting.Mrs. Art Webb was in
charge of the worship service
which was opened by all singing
"Joy to the World,"
The Bible Christmas story was
read by Mrs. Les Adams. A poem
entitled "Christmas at Sea," was
read by Mrs. Alec Hamilton. A
solo was sung by Mrs. Olive
Miller. Mrs. Webb read a story
about looking for Christmas in
the city.
Roll call was answered by
"Writing down a resolution I
don't intend to keep,".
Funeral services were held
Tuesday afternoon for Garnet
Patterson who passed away
Saturday December 14 at the
Canadianna Nursing Home in
Chatham.
Mr. Patterson farmed fbr
many years on the Bluewater
Highway, north of Grand Bend
and lived retired in Grand Bend a
number of years.
He is survived by. his wife the
former Agnes Turnbull, two
daughters, Eileen, Mrs, Earl
Burr of Sarnia and Shirley, Mrs.
Ralph McCormick of Toronto and
5 grandchildren.
Also surviving are four sisters
UCW Christmas meeting
The CGIT and husbands were
guests at the Centralia UCW
Christmas meeting last Thursday
evening, Mrs. Charlie Rollings
welcomed all present and opened
the meeting with all singing the
Christmas carol, "0 Come all ye
Faithful.
Mrs. Sam Skinner read the
scripture, the Christmas story
from Luke and Mrs. Lloyd
Morgan gave a prayer. Mrs.
Charlie Rollings and Mrs,
Harvey Smith read two poems,
"A gift of friendship" and "Yes
Virginia, There is a Santa
Claus".
Two carols were sung. Mrs.
June Essery read a poem, "Why
do we have Christmas". A
playlet, "The twelve days of
Christmas" was enacted by
seven ladies, Mrs. Alvin Lett,
Mrs, Ralph Lightfoot, Mrs. Lorne
Hicks, Mrs. Frank Hicks, Mrs.
Ken Hodgins, Mrs, Elmer Powe,
interspresed with a solo by Mrs.
Ross McFalls.
The CGIT sang two choruses
and several Christmas carols and
closed the devotions by singing
"Joy to the World".
Group 1 served a smorgasbord
Christmas dinner and group 2
was in charge of the program.
The proposed draft budget for
the Ausable-Bayfield Con-
servation Authority as presented
at the year-end meeting Wed-
nesday called for approximately
$600,000, $125,000 more than the
'74 budget of $475,000.
Land acquisition charges
general maintenance and salary
hikes represent the major portion
of the increase.
, Proposed administration costs
are down from $137,750 in 1974 to
$126,000 for 1975. Major drops can
be seen in equipment materials
and supplies due to a major
change in funding for ad-
ministration.
The annual report for the
Authority states that "Vehicles,
and equipment purchase and
operating costs, minor tools and
work shop supplies were all
eliminated,"
Some changes have been made
in the capital proposals to allow
for rental of all Authority
vehicles and equipment to
various capital projects but
particulars have not yet been
worked out.
There is also a change in the
system of payment of grants, The
bulk of grants available will be
paid in a lump sum on May 1.
Negotiations have taken place
with the staff for 1976, salaries on
the follhwing" Authority
superintendent and secretary-
treasurer an increase of $1,000;
stenographer-receptionist $500;
assistant bookkeeper 50 cents an
hour; foreman and tradesman,
15 cent an hour; and hourly
employees 10 cents an hour. All
hourly rated employees will
continue to receive the cost of
living allowance and the salaried
employees will also benefit from
a cost of living allowance of 2
cents an hour for each one percent
rise in the index.
A motion to raise the per diem
from $20 per half day and $30 per
full day to $25 and $35 respec-
tively was passed by the mem-
bers.
A motion to raise the mileage
from 15 cents per mile to 18icents
per mile was defeated.

schoolroom of the United Church
on Friday evening and the
C.G.I.T. Vesper service will be in
the church on Sunday evening.
