expressing my sincere thanks to those who
gave me their support at the polls, also a
special thank-you to those who gave their
time and efforts to make it possible for me
to obtain the office of Reeve.
I will endeavour to fulfill the faith and
confidence shown me, and will work to the
best of my ability for all the people of
our township.

A short course, Baked in a Pie,
Was sponsored by the Women's
Institute and held in the Anglican
Church Hall on Monday a.m.
Under the capable leadership
of Mrs. D. Roloson and Mrs. C.
Lewis, the ladies present par-
ticipated in baking Corn Cheese,
Quiche Loraine and Beef Squash
pies, also sausage rolls. Dessert
pies made were, a Blueberry
Chiffon and Pineapple
Rhubarb.These were all sampled
later for lunch,
Medway Euchre Club
Mrs. Austin Hobbs was the
hostess for the first meeting of
the season. Prize winners were
ladies high, Mrs. C. McRobert;
lone hands, Mrs. E. Summers;
low, Mrs. C. Hodgins; mens high,
Mr. C. McRobert, lone hands, Mr.
C, Lewis; low, Mr. C, Hodgins.
Senior Citizens
The 'Happy Gang' were served
a Christmas dinner by Unit II of
the U.C.W. at their November
meeting in the church basement.
Mrs. Cecil Bowman presided in
the absence of Mr. & Mrs. J,
Kenn,
Cards and different games
were enjoyed. Lucky draw prize
winners were Mrs. G. Squire,
Rev, Mary McInally and Mrs. W,
Jones,
Owing to there being no
meeting in December those
celebrating birthdays in
December as well as November
had their names on the birthday
cake. Those honored were Mrs.

of the United Church, this WaS. an
appeal to everyone to do with a
little less at Christmas in order to

The first candle of Advent
Signifying, Forgiveness, was lit
by the minister. The Children's
Story took the form of an ex-
planation of the season of Advent.
Anglican
At St, Thomas Anglican
Church, Rev. R.N. Savory
celebrated Holy Communion at
the morning service. Lessons for
the first Sunday in Advent were
read and the sermon was on the
Second Coming of Christ.
Mrs. C. Lewis lit the first
candle for Advent. The Sunday
School party was announced for

Don Middleton Toronto spent
the weekend with his parents Mr.

Ross Hodgins formerly of
Devizes and now living in London
attended the 40th Council of the
International Federation of
Librarians at. the Washington
Hilton Hotel, Washington D.C.
Ross is a student at Western
University.
Ruth Mardlin, a nurse in
training at St, Thomas Hospital,
was home for the weekend.
Congratulations to Chuck and
Ruth Ann Peckam on the birth of
their son Noah Fredrick at St.
Joseph's Hospital London
November 30.
Mrs. Gordon Alce has returned
home after visiting with her son
Pete and his wife in Calgary,
while there Mrs. Alce was on
hand for the birth of her newest
grandson. Congratulations go to
Pete and family.
Mr. & Mrs. James Kerr visited
their son Jim Jr. and family in
Toronto last week. They also
called on Mr. & Mrs. Chantler in
Toronto. Mrs. Chantler is their
daughter Margaret.
Mr. & Mrs. A, Hobbs and Mr. &
Mrs. E. Middleton were dinner
guests of Mrs, S. Jermyn, Lon-

Returns from England
Mrs. William Knapman has
returned from her trip to
England where she visited her
parents.
Her comments were that the
situation there is very grim,
People are afraid to travel on
buses, trains or planes because of
bomh scares. Mrs, Knaptnan's
plane on her return journey was
delayed because of a warning
that there was a bomb aboard.
Fireman's banquet
The ladies of Court Valentine
catered to the fireman's banquet
held in the Forresters Hall last
Saturday evening. About fifty
guests attended.
Chairman of the fire board,
K.E. Hodgins, welcomed all
guests present including the
volunteer fireman's board
members and their wives.
Lucky number prize winners
were Mrs. Garfield Nixon, Mrs.
Ben Kop, Mrs. Jack Bryan, Jim
McRobert and Jim Shipley.
Mrs. Ron Denham, on behalf of
the board members, thanked the
volunteer firemen for their well-
performed duties, Jim Shipley,
on behalf of all present, thanked
the ladies for serving a delicious
dinner.
Homer McKay, retiring reeve
of Blanshard Township in his
speech said he hoped that the new
members would continue to build
a reserve for future equipment.
Jack Bryan sec, treasurer gave
an account of the past years up to
the present time. Mr. Hodgins
thanked all present for coming
and helping to make it a most
enjoyable evening.

birthday recently and his wife
