Page 10 Times-Advocate, November 28, 1974 Resolve to read more Calf - club successful Resort ladies plan craft fair at Royal Winter Fair gathered Friday evening at the home of Mr, & Mrs. Jack Allister for a surprise birthday dinner in honor of Mrs. Leroy Bariteau. Members of the Exeter 4-1-1. calf OW were successful in showing their steers in the Queen Guineas. Dinner was followed by an evening of euchre. Out of town guests were from Detroit and Plymouth, Michigan. Class at the Royal Winter Fair on Friday. Les Coleman, Cathy and Doug Easton, Fred Hera, John and Dwight Kinsman, Bevin and David Kinsman, Barbara and Barry Miller, Beth Passmore, Joan and Brian Pym and Elaine and Murray Stewart were the exhibitors. Nine placed in the first prize group - three in the second prize group and three in the third prize group. There were 250 4-H steers in the competition from all across the province. The Exeter Club had the largest entry from any one single club in the province. Three Hereford calves shown by Barbara and Barry Miller and Beth Passmore placed third in the class for a group of 3 steers from any one county. They boys enjoyed a smorgasbord ham and turkey dinner prepared by the Mothers Auxiliary. Later a film was shown on the 1955 World Jamboree in Canada, the boys also saw a film on the Russian Canadian Hockey Series, Distinguished guests present were Lloyd Cameron, District Commissioner; George Bergen, secretary for Perth District and Rev, Mary Manally. Doreen McRobert and Jaunita Westman were presented with their Gilwell beads and scarf for completing the leadership training course. Home from trip Harold Talbot has returned from a three weeks trip to California, this was a guided tour through the Central States. Stop- overs were made at Jolliet, Omaha, Cheyenne and Salt Lake City. Harold was very impressed with the famous Mormon Cathedral, also the State Building with its exterior of Utah granite and the interior of marble and gold trimmings.' Visits were made to gambling Casinos in Reno and Las Vegas. Destination was Los Angeles, where the tour was treated to a visit to Hollywood, and saw a film in the process of being made. Actress Patty Duke was in the studio at the time. A visit to Disney Land, and the return journey which included a view of the Grand Canyon and the Hoover Dam. Calls were made at Albuquerque, Oklahoma City, Tulsa, Springfield, St, Louis and finally home to London. Church news - United The subject of Rev. Mary Mclnally's sermon was "stewardship of our Environ- ment". The minister's message drew attention to the pollution of air, land and water, also the world food shortage and star- vation in other countries. Receiving Sunday School at- tendance award pins were 4th pin, Raymond McRobert, Fern Mardlin, Larry Forrest and Julie McRobert; 3rd pin, Karen Hofrichter and 1st pin, Colleen Malcolm and Paul Wright. St. Thomas Anglican Rev. R.N. Savary took his text from Hebrews Chapters 6 & 11. His message was based on the "Belief we have in hope and faith." The A.C.W. ladies are busy working on a quilt which is to be sold at their annual baazar next week. Mrs. Savary is progressing satisfactorily after surgery in St. Mary's Memorial Hospital, W.I. News Mrs. Earle Middleton was the hostess for the November meeting. The topic was citizenship and world affairs and the roll call was answered by naming a country in the United Nations, There were 15 members at the Womeris Institute meeting, held Thursday afternoon at the town hall. Roll call was to, "Name the most interesting article you have read recently," President Mrs. Alec Hamilton presided, Final plans were made for the Craft Fair and Bake sale on November 30. All members were reminded to bring baking for the bake table. The resolutions to be voted on at the Convention next week in Stratford were read by Mrs. Leroy Bariteau. Motto was, "Resolve to take more time to read as it is the fountain of wisdom." Mrs. Bariteau read a story about Abraham Lincoln, who had not had formal education, but gained his knowledge through reading. Church of God The Church of God ladies held their regular W.M.S. meeting last Monday evening at the home of Mrs. Katie Vincent. Roll call was answered by telling, " A time when God definitely touched you," Worship service was conducted by Mrs. Deanna McGregor. Plans were discussed for a Christmas party for ladies of the church to be held on December 9th at the home of Mrs. Kenneth McGregor. Personals Mrs, Kathryn Pagel and Mrs. Angela Walker of Plymouth, Michigan spent a few days last week with Mrs. Leroy Bariteau. Art Finkbeiner and Mrs. Laird Hendrick have returned to their homes after being hospitalized. Mrs. Myrtle McGregor has gone to live in Parkhill for the winter months with a lady friend. Mr. & Mrs. Bill White of Sarnia visited Fridaywith their aunt and uncle Mr. & Mrs. Art Finkbeiner. Sympathy of this community is extended to Mr. & Mrs. Don Flear and family, in the sudden death of her father, George Armstrong, of Hensall last Friday. Mr. & Mrs. Roy Morenz, at- tended the wedding, Saturday, of her nephew Ross Cook, son' of Mr. & Mrs. Stanley Cook, of Millbank, to Linda Manion of Kitchener, at St. Paul's United' Church in Milverton and reception later at the Legion Hall. Mr. & Mrs. Duncan McVittie and Robin of Southampton visited Sunday with her parents Mr. & Mrs. Lawrence Johnson. Robin is spending this week with her grandparents and aunt. Mrs. Mae Holt and Buelah visited last week with their granddaughter and niece Mr. & Mrs. Hugh Smith and family of Thedfordl Weekend and Sunday visitors with Mr. & Mrs. Alec Hamilton were Eber Lewis of Goderich, Mr. & Mrs. Leonard Wein of Crediton, and Bradley and Brent Hamilton of London. Friends and neighbours One item of business was the concern felt by the members at the condition of the War Memorial which has been defaced by Halloween pranksters throwing oil on the monument. It was decided that a letter be sent to the Township Council in connection with this matter. The response to the retiring collection from both churches was very gratifying. Mrs. Elmer Summers in- troduced the guest speaker Mrs. ,Leo Sharpe of South Lobo Institute who spoke on her recent trip to Australia where she at- tended the A.C.W.W. Tri-annual Conference in Perth. Mrs. Sharpe gave a detailed account of her trip which included a three day stop-over at the Fiji Islands and calls at all the principal cities in Australia from east to west, also a visit to Auckland,New Zealand on her way home, not to mention what took place at the Conference. Mrs. Henderson president of South' Lake Branch accompanied Mrs. Sharpe as a visitor. The program ended with household hints and current events given by Mrs. Norman Hodgins and the reading of the Institute Carol by Mrs. Summers.' A delicious lunch was served by the hostess and conveners, Mrs. E. Summers and Mrs. N. Hodgins. Personals Mrs. Beecher Hanson of St. Mary's was an overnight guest of Mrs, Norman Riddell and at- tended the Women's Institutute meeting. Mrs. Hanson is a former member. • Mrs. Al Cocquyt, a member of the'Lucan branch of the Cancer , Society and Mrs. Robert Harloff, attended a meeting held at Thames Lodge London on Wednesday, November 20. Mr. & Mrs. Kenneth Hodgins and family called on Mrs. Frank Dale, London on Sunday. Mrs. Francis Jenson, London, has been the guest of her sister Mrs. Nelson Elliott for several days. Mr. & Mrs. Alex McDonald, Transvaal visited with Mr. & Mrs. Wesley McGuffin and Mrs. Carson. Guests of Mrs. F.J. Tuesday she will ,. have the fracture set with a steel pin. Mr. & Mrs. Alex MacIntosh spent the weekend at their home in Clandeboye. Mr. & Mrs. G. Millson, Mr, & Mrs. C.W. By MRS. DAVID KESTLE CLANDEBOYE Achievement Day for half of Middlesex North was held in Sacred Heart School on Saturday in Parkhill. Among those receiving their county Honours for six 4-H clubs (Homemaking) completed were Dianne Lynn and Cindy Donaldson of Clandeboye. UCW elect officers Anglican Women had their meeting in the church basement Thursday evening. The president Mrs. Roy Cunningham opened the business meeting with a hymn and prayer. Rev. Holfland conducted the election of officers with the changes in officers as follows; president, Mrs. Clarence Carter; vice-president, Mrs. Joe Cun- ningham; vice-secretary, Mrs. Karl O'Neil and treasurer Mrs. Cecil Carter. Plans were made to have euchre parties to be held beginning in January, Mrs. A. Hill and Mrs. A. Lewis were in charge of refreshements. The plans were finalized for the group to go to Act Fast Sunday evening. Persona Is Mrs. M.J. Simpson returned home, after spending a week with Mrs. J. Richards was admitted to St. Joseph's Hospital where she underwent surgery on Wednesday. David Kestle is confined to his home for several days under the doctor's care, Christmas exams are now in progress and by the end of this week will be completed at Medway School.
