By 1980 new car bodies will
be about half rubber or
plastic, according to one in-
dustry leader. Reasons include
reduced weight, better
resistance to corrosion and less
damage in collisions.
Fashion is fine, but don't let it
interfere with driving. Beware
platform shoes, wide slacks,
novelty sunglasses. They may
get in the way of 5afety,
Experts advise us to use the
recommended engine oil in our
cars. Too-thin oil can cause
damage and repair bills, Too-
thick oils require more power
than we should need to use.
Anniversary
at Dashwood
The first scheduled start for the
Lucan-Ilderton Jets in the
Ontario Hockey Association
Senior Continental leagtie turned
out to be a successful one, Friday
night.
Before a hometown crowd pt
the Ilderton arena, the Jets
doubled the score 6-3 on the
Stratford Perths, In their only
action this week, the Jets travel
to Woodstock Friday night to
meet the Royals in an 8;30 p.m.
contest.
Two goal performances by
Rick Fifield and Rick Campbell
paced the Jets scoring attack
while solid goal tending by Sonny
Pennington kept the Stratford
club well in hand,
The first goal of the game was
notched by Fifield at the halfway
mark of the first period as he
converted passes from Don
Carter and Jeff Craig on a 20 foot
shpt which ricocheted off a goal
post into the net.
Five minutes later on a power
play, Don Carter shot the L-I lead
to two goals on a quick wrist shot
from the blueline with assists
going to Bill Fairbairn and Jack
Nairn.
Dick Doughty put the Jets
ahead 3-0 at the 17.06 mark on a
shot from 15 feet out on a play set
up by Bill Dunnell and Jack
Nairn. Dunnell carried the puck
the length of the ice and passed
out from behind the net to the
waiting Doughty.
Each team was able to score
one goal in the second period.
Rick Campbell was the Jets
marksmen on a three-way effort
with Terry Johnson and Larry
Haugh. The Stratford scorer was
Bill Quinn.
Shortly after the three minute
mark of the third frame, Rick
Campbell completed his two goal
night as he was able to score from
close range on a play originated
by Jack Nairn and Barry
Baynham.
The Stratford club was able to
cut the Jets lead with two quick
scores near the halfway mark.
Shooting successfully were Pete
Paleczny and Paul Boudreau.
Game scoring came to a close
at 13,37 with Rick Fifield's second
goal. This time Bill Fairbairn and
Don Carter drew assists,

School cagers
take two losses
By TERESA ONDREJICKA
Oh, well, you can't win them
all! So the South Huron
basketball teams have
discovered lately. Thursday,
October 17 we faced a double loss
to Stratford Northwestern, in
Stratford.
The juniors lost 54-35 although
they put up a good fight. Jill
Tuckey came up with a whopping
17 points. Donna Riddell scored
five, Tammy Baker came up with
four, Julianne Brittain and Cathy
Vriese trippled with three, and
Janet Pryde scored two.
The seniors also fell to defeat
being left behind 53-31. Deb
Wooden marked up 12, Gail
Fuller came next with 11, Val
Sweet scored three, and Ann
Muller and Gayle Ecker doubled
with two,
They were both exceptionally
good games and both South
Huron teams showed strong
possibilities. They're out prac-
tising every night, so maybe next
time we'll see a win.
