family of Thorold were weekend
guests with Mr. & Mrs. Howard
Currie.
The Lucan. Irish juniors opened
their exhibition hockey series on
a winning note as they downed
the Exeter Hawks by an 8-5 score
in a game played at Huron Park.
Sunday afternoon. Lambeth
outskated and outscored the Irish
as they coasted to a 10-5 victory.
Lucan never led as. Lambeth
scored twice in the first and
scored four goals in both the
second and third period. Ron
Funston led the Irish with two
goals, one while Lucan was
shorthanded, and singles went to
Mike McIntyre, Mike Wraith and
Jim Maguire.
Lucan's next exhibition game
is against the Exeter Hawks in
Lucati, Wednesday and they open
the season in Strathroy on Sun-
day,
Pony killed in area accident,
two trailers cause crashes

The Irish Nine hopes of winning
the league championship two
years in a row ended when Lieury
defeated Lucan 4-3 to win the
finals four games to two, In the
fifth game Lucan staved off
elimination with a 12-10 victory.
With the score tied at four
apiece after three innings, Lucan
scored four runs in both the
fourth and fifth innings to take a
12.8 lead after five, Lieury then
scored two runs in the sixth but
could not overtake the Irish. Russ

Can't think of too many fellows
we know that are opposed to this
system. Start calling girls. We all
know that our phone bills are
going up. But just to help you feel
a little better about it the federal
government has just announced
what the Department of National
Defence will be paying for
communications during the
current fiscal year. The total for .
this one Department (it is one of
the larger ones, mind you) is
$20,075,000 for the year. Sort of
takes the sting out of paying
yours, eh.
We trust our readers had a
happy Thanksgiving Day.
The lucky winner of this
months cheque draw for $100 was
Gord Brooks and the name drawn
for this weeks Pot O'Gold was Jim
Craig and he not being registered
let's the pot grow for another
week - too bad Jimmy.

When the Lucan & District
Lions Club met on Monday
evening, October 7th they
presented a 20 year Chevron to
Lion Jim Young, a 15 year
Chevron to Lion Gary McFalls
and one for 10 years to Lion Don
Smith.
The annual bus trip for the area
Seniors was discussed and $650.00
allocated for two busses, a noon
meal and the entrance fee into
the Lion Safari. The group will
also visit the Kitchener Market.
A donation of $50.00 was made
to the 2nd Lucan Brownie Pack
and $200.00 toward the London
District A Convention for Ontario
and Quebec in 1977.
A pony was killed in one of
eight accidents investigated this
week by officers of the Ontario
Provincial Police detachment at
Lucan.
The pony owned by Roy Pitts
strayed onto Highway 4, about a
half mile south of Lucan and was
in collision with a vehicle driven
by Ronald Walter Weber, 587
Donegal road, London.
The mishap occurred at 6:45
a.m. Monday and was in-
vestigated by Constable N. A.
Campbell. The Weber vehicle
was damaged to the extent of
$225.
Two Friday accidents oc-
curred in the early evening
hours. at 6:15 p.m. vehicles
driven by Henry Lyons. 30
Blueridge Crescent, London and
David Dosman, Clinton collided
on Highway 4, a fifth of a mile
south of the Ilderton road.
Constable James Craig in-
vestigated and set damages at
$350.
Less than two hours later, a
vehicle driven by Leroy Guy
Harrison, Centralia left County
road 22, a half mile south of
Highway 7 and rolled over.
The driver was not injured and
Constable Craig listed damages
at $1,200.
Tuesday evening at 8:45 p.m.,
a vehicle driven by Paul Krueger
was damaged to the extent of
$400 when it was struck by a
trailer wheel.
The wheel came loose frOm a
trailer being, towed on County
goad 12,0, a half mile south of
'County road 16 by a vehicle
driven by Theophiel Coeck, 1871
Royal Crescent, London.
Constable B. D. Munroe in-
vestigated.
At 10:30 p.m. Thursday, a
pickup truck driven by G. Clare
Woodburn, RR 8 Parkhill, and a
Mrs. Lawrence McCarthey had
the misfortune to fall in her home
' Thursday evening and is now
wearing a cast on a broken right
wrist.
Mr. & Mrs. John Campbell and
family of Chatham were weekend
guests with Mr. & Mrs. S.
Revington, parents of Mrs,
Campbell.
Several members of the
community have joined the
London Kiwanis Travel and
Adventure Series and enjoyed
"Incredible Japan" with James
Forshee on Thursday evening at
Centennial Hall.
Wednesday evening, Mrs. M.H.
Hodgins, as Regional Vice-
President, paid her official visit
to Lieury U.C.W, Thanksgiving
meeting at the home of Mrs.
Lloyd Durr, and Thursday
evening was the guest speaker on
Resolutions, at the Ilderton W,I.,
in Bethel Presbyterian Church.
Mrs. Hodgins is Convener of
Resolutions for N. Middlesex
District.

Mr, Lyle Revington is
recuperating from a heart at-
tack, in St. Joseph's hospital.
Mr. Allen Madden was a
weekend guest with the family of
Vera VanKeulen, but returned
with Vera for Thanksgiving with
his parents, Rev. & Mrs. Ewart
Madden.
Rev. John Hofland visited with
Miss L.E. Abbott at McCormick
Home on Thursday but was too ill
to, stay. Upon going to emergency
at St. Joseph's hospital-he was
advised to go home and spend 3
weeks in bed, on a board, due to a
back injury. Rev. E.O. Lan-
caster, a previous rector, con-
ducted the service at Holy Trinity
Anglican Church on Sunday.
Hi folks, just a reminder it's
later than you think, I have just
received word Branch 540's
minor hockey practices have
started with the first league
game called for October 25. My
sakes it sure was a short sum-
mer.
Plans have already started on
Branch 540's version of the 1975
atom hockey tournament.
Invitations will soon be in the
mail to those teams which par-
ticipated in our first attempt and
from the enthusiasm shown at
that time we shouldn't have any
problem with our second annual
attempt.
Remember these tournament
just don't happen, they take a lot
of planning and hard work
beforehand to make them suc-
cessful,

members at the Explorer's
Expedition after school last
Monday.
The members proceded into
the Church for a Thanksgiving
Worship Service, singing "Can a
Little Child Like Me.". A worship
centre of fruit had been arranged
by two gold star girls, Lori Leitch
and Mary Madden and the ser-
vice was led by Explorers
Jacqueline Richards and Robin
Kraut.
Tami McRoberts read a poem
"Thank You, God, for Things in
Two's" and Mrs. Don O'Neil told
the story of "The Full Box."
Following worship the mem-
bers broke into groups for Star
Memory Work. The blue star
girls will prepare a worship centre
for the October 21st Expedition
when members will learn of
Friends of Unicef are asked to
watch for announcement of a
visit from the Explorers.

"Party Poppers" was the name
chosen by the Lucan II 4-H Club
at their meeting in St. Patrick's
School Library, Thursday
evening.
President Rosemary Boland
opened the meeting with the 4-H
Pledge and all members con-
tributed $1.00 to treasurer Mary
Dewan to cover current ex-
penses. The members answered
the roll call by explaining the
type of reference file they were
using,
The cover for the booklet was
designed, blue with a caricature
of a girl holding a tray of cookies,
Entertaining a guest, being a
guest, packing for travel, and
easy packing were discussed by
assistant leader Miss Patricia
Mohan.
The members enjoyed a
learning situation of serving a
snack, at the close of the meeting.
UCW plans to cater
Mr. J.A. Young, the Chairman
of the Lucan New Horizons
committee, who has done most of
the redecorating at the Sr.
•Citizens Club Rooms, was
honoured at the meeting ' on
Thursday on his 76th birthday.
Mr. Young cut one of the two
cakes provided by President
Gordon Hotson and Mrs. Hotson.
Mrs. J.F. Tuke, the Vice-Pres.
was remembered with a card.
She has been ill with pneumonia.
Mrs. Geo. Hindmarsh was
introduced to the members and
will be teaching liquid em-
broidery to the Craft group for
the next few meetings. All seniors
interested are urged to be present
Thursday afternoon from 1:30 -
4:00.
Thirty-two members played
euchre for high score with Mrs.
H. Thompson and Mr. Fred
Mcllhargey winners.
The bus trip sponsored by the
Lions Club for all seniors in
Granton and Lucan areas, will go
on Saturday, October 19th, to the
Kitchener Market and the Lions
Safari in Rockton. Club members
must register with a member of
the Executive at once if they wish
to go.
Mrs. Tom Emery, Sr., gave a
humorous reading for Mrs. Wm.
Salter.
Lunch was served by Mrs. L.
Barker and Mrs. D, Allen.

Tentative plans weremade for
the annual "Snowflake Bazaar"
on Friday, December 6th.
At Ailsa Craig the members
saw "Live Love Projects" in
action when Mrs. A.A. Kilb,
president of Middlesex
Presbyterial, showed pictures
and told of several different
"Live-Love" countries and things
for which they were thankful.
Ghana, India, Singapore, Hong
Kong and Japan were visited
through slides.
Final plans were made for
catering for the Ankers-Smith
wedding on October 19th, when
members of the U.C.W. met for a
short business meeting on
Tuesday evening, prior to at-
tending the Thankoffering
meeting of Ailsa Craig U.
C.W., at 8 p.m.
The President, Mrs. Sheridan

The Lucan United Church was
beautifully decorated for the
Thanksgiving service on Sunday,
by the GYPSWY Group and
special thanks was given to them
during the service.
During the service the
Sacrament of Infant Baptism was
administered to Bradley David
Robert, son of Mr, & Mrs. Donald
Coughlin and Adam John son of
Mr. & Mrs. Orville Wein, At an
afternoon Baptism Melissa Dyan,
daughter of Mr, & Mrs. Doug
Galloway and Bradley Allan, son
of Mr. & Mrs. Bev Hirtzel, were
christened.
Mr. C.B. Culbert, representing
the Session, presented the Cer-
tificates of Baptism and Mrs.
Sheridan Revington, U.C.W.
President, welcomed each baby
with a carnation.
The Meditation given by Rev.
Ewart Madden was on "Sunshine
Forever" based on Psalm 89.
Evert Gagon, a former pastor,
played a coronet solo at each
service.
Rev. Ray Brewster speaking
from Psalm 95 stated we should
give thanks to God for all He has
created for us to enjoy.
The evening service was one of
music and witness. Several
Sunday School classes sang
choruses as well as the youth
groups.
A vocal trio was sung by Mr.
Brewster, Mr. Gagon and Mrs.
John Armitage. Joan Lockyer
sang a solo accompanying herself
on the guitar and Doug Butler
also sang a solo, Lori and Lisa
Compton played an accordion
solo. Many parents were present
to hear the children's program.
Mr. Brewster speaking from
John 3:16 stated that God's gift of
His Son Jesus Christ is worthy of
our thanks.
