Wednesday night at the regular
Explorers meeting election of
officers were held for the current
year. The girls elected were
Elaine Rooney as chief explorer,
Ann Marie Beaucage the Keeper
of the Log and Roseanne Prit-
chard as the Keeper of the
Treasure. Girls eligible for these
positions must be in their last
year of explorers.
Bridal Shower
Nancy Nickles was the guest of
honour at a bridal shower held
Monday evening in Granton
United Church basement. Sharon
Mardlin welcomed everyone and
Ferne Mardlin played a lovely
piano selection. Mrs. Robert
Harloff presented a reading and
Sherri Riddell conducted a
contest. Nancy was assisted in
opening her lovely gifts by
Brenda Parnall. Sharon Mardlin
and Sherri Riddell in charge of
getting up the shower served luch
and refreshements.
Tuesday evening in Granton
United Church a bridal shower
was held in honour of Marion
Squires. Mrs. Lynda Blom and
Marlene Hodgins, Donna Jones
and Frances Thomson assisted in
organizing the shower.
Mrs. Lynda Blom welcomed
everyone and a couple of games
were played which everyone
enjoyed. Marion was assisted in
opening her beautiful gifts by her
bridal attendants Mrs. Lynda
Blom, Nancy Ready, Colleen
Squires and Valerie Squires.
Granton UCW News
Unit No. 3 held their October
meeting Tuesday evening at the
home of Mrs. Doug Brown, Mrs.
Ruth Cook and Mrs. Marguerite
Garrett in charge of the program
had two guest speakers. Rev. M.
McInally and Mrs. R. N. Savary
spoke and headed a very in-
teresting discussion on church
union.
Mrs. John Drost and Mrs. Bob
Garrett were in charge of the
lunch for this meeting, It was
decided to hold their November
meeting at the Country Spire at
Russeldale..
Unit No. 4 met Wednesday
evening at the home of Mrs.
Stanley Crawford. Leader Mrs.
Mary Dykes opened the worship
service and Mrs. Charlotte Kerr
read the scriptures. Mrs. Cecil
Bowman read a poem on
Thanksgiving.
Mrs. Olive Gowan and Mrs.
Mary Dykes were in charge of the
program on Peace and a
discussion followed. Mrs. Ken
and Mrs. Harold Hardie in
charge of the lunch for the
meeting served the refresh-
ments.
Unit No. 1 met Wednesday
afternoon at the home of Mrs.
Minnie Mardlin who is now living
in London. Mrs. Wilda Middleton
and Mrs. Eileen Summers were
in charge of the program and
Mrs. Cliff McRobert delivered
the Bible scriptures. A social hour
followed with lunch and refresh-
ments provided by Mrs. Edith
Westman and Mrs. Inez
McRobert.
Couple Married
Maurleen Rudd was united in
marriage to Ted Oliver Friday
evening in Granton United
Church with Rev.M. McInally of-
fieiating. Several people from
Granton and the surrounding
area attended the reception and
wedding dance held later in the
rSt. —Marys Arena. Unit No. 5
UCW women catered for the
smorgasbord meal.
Cubs Graduate
Last Monday evening at the
Granton Scout Hall a going up
ceremony was held. Ricky Kloss
and Brian Currah graduated
from cubs to scouts and the scout
members were there to receive
them,
4-H News
The third meeting of the
Granton 4-H was held Saturday
October 5 at the home of Nancy
and Susan Riddell. The meeting
was opened with the 4-H pledge
and the roll call was answered by
each girl telling what type of
reference file she had chosen to
use.
The name "Happy Hostesses"
was decided on as the title for
their club. Each girl showed a
flower arrangment which she
had made which was a home
assignment.
Each girl composed a thank
you note to Mrs. Carol Wissell
and the best one was selected and
sent to her. The girls were to
think of different types of sand-
wiches and fillings for the next
meeting.
Karen McManus was the
secretary and press reporter for
meeting three.
Church News
Holy Communion was
celebrated at Granton United
Church Sunday morning. Rev, M.
McInally announced that Infant
Baptism will be celebrated on
November 3 and any parent
wishing to present their children
for baptism were to contact her
by October 27.
Services were withdrawn at St.
Thomas Anglican Church Sunday
to enable the Granton
congregation to worship at St.
Paul's Anglican Anniversary
Service, Kirkton. Rev. R.N.
Savary was in charge of the
service.

travelled to Meaford Saturday
and spent the night with their
granddaughter and husband Mr.
