Corbett's at syrup meeting UCW hosts regional By mots. iRvIN RADER DASHWQQD Harry Hoffman attended the International Disciplinary Conference on Emergency Services for Ontario on "Disaster", Friday, October 4 at the Skyline Hotel in Toronto. Oyer 500 were in attendance. Speakers included Dr. A.H, Finlay, of the faculty of medicine, University of Calgary with the topic "Community Involvement in Disaster", Fred Skelton, "Communications"; Mrs. Julie Roberts, R.N. "Casualty reception"; Dr. Ian Mackay "Management of mass casualties". The Minister of Health, F.S. Miller also spoke and the superintendent of Metropolitan Toronto police, H.A. Genno spoke on the police point of view. Dr. Neville Poy, of Scarborough Hospital spoke on "Severly burned casualties" and G.L. Jones, of the Operational Services Division gave a case study of an air crash. Mr. Hoffman stated it was a wonderful experience and should be of interest to everyone in this area. the roll call "a country you would like to visit." Mrs. Keller discussed the motto, Take time to listen to the music and customs of another country and in so doing one can educate themselves to the needs of others. Mr. & Mrs. Hamilton Hodgins and Berton attended a surprise birthday party Saturday evening for Mrs. Hodgins father, Hilson Grose, Lucan. Mr. Grose was 80. intreduced the guest speaker Rudy Ramos, a Philippine em- ployed with Tillotsyn Plastics, who spoke on his native country and showed slides, He showed a lovely tray woven from Bamboo Wood with a picture of the Philippines on it and later donated it to the Dashwood W.I. Mrs. Gordon Bender, president, presided for the business. The social groups are in charge of a membership drive. An invitation from Seaforth W.I. was accepted. The Fall Rally was discussed. Dashwood 4-H girls club 2 held their third meeting Monday, September 30 at the community centre with 10 girls present. The leader Mrs. Earl Keller discussed the house guest and Mrs. Ray Rader demonstrated the proper way to pack a suit- case. Mr. & Mrs. Ross Love ac- companied by Mr. & Mrs. Verne Sharpe, Parkhill, returned home Monday, following a holiday in the North calling on Mr. & Mrs. Don Love and family, Sudbury, Sunday evening. Mr. & Mrs. Bill Adams have returned home following a month's vacation by bus to the West coast. They visited relatives and friends in Saskatchewan, Alberta and British Columbia. They visited with Mrs. Adams' brother in Vancouver and many many friends at Victoria. Canvass for Blind The Canvass for the Blind will be held in the Dashwood area next Tuesday reported area convener Mrs. H. Boyle. The canvass will be conducted by the Hi-C youth group. The October meeting of the UCW was held at the home of Mrs. Edwin Morley. The Opening hymn "God sees the little sparrow fall" was sung. Mrs. Harvey Steeper read the scripture reading. A reading "Everybody welcome or are They" was given by Mrs. Jack Trevithick. Poem "Be Pleasant" was read by Mrs. Harvey Steeper. Mrs. George Lee took over for the business. Minutes were read and roll call was answered by 7 members. $10.00 donation was to be paid to Arthritic bazaar to be held in Parkhill November 2nd. Group 2 ladies served lunch. South Huron Fall Regional The ladies of Calvary United Church hosted the Fall Regional with about ninety in attendance. Mrs. Mervyn Tiernan welcomed all followed by a Hymn sung by Grand Bend ladies. Devotions were under the leadership of Elimville ladies. Four ladies, June Essery Centralia; Audrey McGregor, Exeter; Lyn Robinson, Thames Road; and Ella Morlock, Crediton, held a panel discussion "Rock of God." Following dinner served by Dashwood U.C.W. Exeter con- ducted devotions followed by a ladies quartette from Greenway. Roll call was held when each president gave a highlight of her year in office. Guest speaker, Mrs. Ellan Roff, Mitchell, took as her topic "Growth." Chiselhurst ladies collected the offering and Thames Road Ladies, "Cour- tesies," Dashwood W.I.
