Most of the prizes in the poultry
division at Saturday's Exeter
Fair went to two Hay township
farmers.
Clifford Pepper, RR 1, Dash
wood who has been a consistent
winner over the years took home
41 red ribbons in a dozen different
varieties of chickens,
Earl Becker, also of RR 1,
Dashwood gained 19 first places
in the individilal bird show and
one in the bantam class.
The big winner in bantams was
Donald Dearing with 22 prize
birds. Also taking first in this
division were Jack Snell and
Glenn Jeffrey,
In the hog show, the winner of
the light barrow class and the
best barrow was Herman Stef-
fens, RR 1, Lucan while in the
heavier division Bob Down took
first and second prizes.
Down, incidentally showed
probably the cleanest pigs in
town as he stopped at the car
wash at the north end of Exeter
on the way to the fair and gave
his animals a good washing.
Howard Fletcher of Lambeth
took the majority of prizes in the
rabbit show and won a trophy
presented by the South Huron
Rabbit Breeders Association.
Also taking first prizes in
rabbits were Angus. Murray,
Denfield and Mrs. Scott, St.
Thomas.
Ross Cudmore, RR 5, Clinton
was the top pigeon exhibitor with
nine first place finishes. Also
placing well up were Don
Dearing and Glenn Jeffrey with
five and four red ribbons,
respectively.
In Holstein cattle, Bobnan
Farms of Blyth took four first
while Mrs. Hank Brand, RR 1,
Exeter showed the top junior
heifer calf.
The majority of shorthorn
cattle awards went to Smith
Bros. of Brussels while Keith
Coates was the top exhibitor with
herefords.
In grains and seeds, Mary
Thomson was the fall wheat
winner, Winston Shapton was
best in barley, Ray Cann excelled
with white beans and Howard
Pym, Bob Down, Winston
Shapton and Mary Thomson took
the four corn awards.
Winners in the hay competition
were Mrs. Tom Hem with two
firsts and Gerald Dearing and
Hank Brand with one each.

Bruce Scott had the misfortune
to get caught in the power take off
of his bean puller last week,
resulting in torn ligaments in his
shoulder and a badly bruised
ankle, and is now convalescing at
home.
Mr. & Mrs. Bill Hall ac-
companied by Mr. & Mrs. Don
Pascoe have returned from a
weeks holiday to Eastern Ontario
and Quebec, They toured the
Thousand Islands, visited Upper
Canada Village and pldces of
interest in Quebec and ..Montreal.
Mr, & Mrs, Leo Pargeter flew
to Winnipeg for a few days and
attended the funeral of their
brother William Coke.
Visitors for a few days with Mr.
& Mrs. Lloyd Mosure were her
sister, Mrs. Reynolds of London
along with her niece Mrs, Silletoe
of England.
Mr. & Mrs. Sam Zavitz have
returned from a weeks tour
visiting Bay City, Michigan,Ohio,
Indiana and other places of in-
terest en route.

the orchestral concert in the
