students off to higher learning
John Vintar, Superintendent of
.Education' for the board, was
rai sed $2,000 at the meeting and
this will bring it up to $33,000
retroactive to. August 1.
Mr, Connolly said that Joseph
Tokar, Assistant Superintendent,
was also given:a $2,000 increase
raising his salary. to $27,000
effective September 1.
Enrolment on opening day in
the 19 separate elementary
schools in Huron and Perth Coun-
ties showed a decrease of '99
pupils from last-year according
to la report given the trustees of
the Huron-Perth County Roman
Catholic Separate School Board
at a meeting in Seaforth Monday.
Enrolment' is 3167,
John Vintar, Superintendent of
Education, reported all the
vacancies in ,the teaching staff
had been completed with three
new appointments, with the ex-
ception of one more teacher re-
quired at St. Michael's School in
Stratford, Mr. Vintar said he
would continue his efforts to
secure a teacher and in the
meantime the pupils were being
accommodated in other
classrooms.

passes away
The Ministry of Education has
notified the Huron Perth County
Roman Catholic Separate School
Board that it has approved the
request for an addition to St,
Patrick's School at Kinkora by
the Board in July.
The board meeting in eom-
mittee of the whole following the
regular meeting in Seaforth
Monday night, .discussed the ad-
dition which will provide a
library resource centre for the
203 pupils, This will give a cen-
tral location for all teaching
aids, library books and supplies
for the school's use, as well it
will provide suitable space for
classes in special education and
French language instruction.
Jack Lane, business ad,
ministrater, has been authorized
to contact Kyles, Kyles and
Garrott, Stratford architects, to
draw up plans of the project. Mr.
Lane will arrange a special
meeting within a week if possi-
ble.
Mr,Lane told the press
representative following the
meeting that he is hoping that
the board will be able to let the
contract for construction before
ChListmas for an early spring
start on the work so that the 20,-
000 square foot addition will be
ready for the September 1975
school opening.
Michael Connolly, board chair-
man, said the addition will cost
about $50,000,
Mr. Connolly informed the
,press that the present salary of
Parkinson, Margaret and Janet
on obtaining second prize on their
float at Kirkton Fair, and to
Calvin Rodd for two seconds with
his 4-H calf,

low, Wilfred Hunkin. Lunch was
served and Mac Hodgert spoke a
few words,

The new teacher appointments "
made recently to fill the vacan-
cies are: Nancy Holmes to. St.
Joseph's School, Clinton; Joanne
Hamilton to St. Joseph's School,
Kingsbridge; and Linda Lee to
Our Lady of Mount Carmel
School at Dashwood.
The new principal's relief ap-
pointments are: Mary Lou
Shantz at St. Joseph's School,
Stratford; Sharyn Boren to
Sacred Heart. School, Wingharn;
and Aileen Craig to St. Joseph's
School, Clinton.
Gladys Talbot has been ap-
pointed a remedial teacher at
Ecole Ste. Marie School, St.
Joseph.
Joseph Tokar, Assistant
Superintendent of Education,
presented an evaluation report of
the Family Life Program as
presented to Grade 8 students
from May n to June 21. This, was
a pilot course in Family Life liv-
ing so that each student would be
able to understand and
appreciate his own dignity and
worth and that of his fellow man.
The course integrated religion,
guidance and health and was
presented by an instructional
team of the principal, pastor and
grade eight teacher.
The board will study the report
and decide whether ,it should be
continued this term and possibly
' extended. The report revealed
that about 93 percent of the,
students said they benefitted by
taking the course and 92,3 per-
cent of the parents recommend-
ed that the course be offered to
grade 8 students during this
academic year 1974-75,
Ted Geoffrey, Zurich chair-
man of the building and
maintenance committee,
reported on work carried out by
the committee during the
summer totalling $40,686.32.
Included in this work were new
roofs on St.Ambrose School in
Stratford and St. Patrick's
School, Kinkora; new parking lot
at St, Boniface School, Zurich;
as well as sewer work at this
school; improvements to
kindergarten room at Dublin;
levelling play area at Holy Name
of Mary School, St. Marys, tiling
at St.Ambrose of Stratford; and
painting at six Perth schools and
two Huron schools, as well as
numerous smaller jobs in
various schools costing less than
$1,000 each.

The Senior Citizens held their

Wednesday afternoon at the
Village Inn Retreat with 22 in
attendance.
Everyone joined in singing

A bus trip was discussed and a
committee appointed to look
after it and report at next
meeting. Several games were
played and lunch, served by the
