By MRS, ROBERT LAING
CROMARTY
Mr. & Mrs. Verne Robson, RA
Staffa, were re-united with.
Robson's father and step-
mother, Mr. & Mrs. Robert
Mundy of Portland, England,
After .4 10-year separation. On
August 25 Mr, Mundy met Mrs.
ftobSon's children from
Kirltton, Dublin, Staffa, and
London, also his daughter frelli
London. Before returning to
England he will also be re-united
with a brother from Alberta from
whom he was separated as a
child in 1904.
Vandals hit church
Sometime Sunday afternoon or
evening Cromarty church was
entered and all the hooks in the
pews were thrown to the floor,
many of them with the .covers
bent back. Most of these were the
new presbyterian Book of Praise
which have only been in use a
little over a year. Passers-by,
noticing a light on in the church,
went in to investigate .and found
the mischief. The side door which
has been left open for the con-
venience of the congregatien in
recent years, is now kept locked,

Members of Perth 4-H Corn and
Bean Club, Tractor Club and
Snowmobile Club and their
parents held a corn and wiener
roast at the home of Mr. & Mrs.
James Harper, near Mitchell.
During the evening the clubs
enjoyed games led by Len
McGregor, co-ordinator from
the Clinton Agricultural Office.
The Exeter swim team capped
off their most successful season
with a seventh place finish in the
Western Ontario Swimming
championships held in Listowel,
Wednesday.
A total of 37 teams were en-
tered in the event sponsored by
the sport and ,recreation bureau
and Canadian Junior Olympic
Association.
Many of the teams competing
against the Exeter swimmers
have the added advantage of year
round swimming, with those
teams coming from London,
Tillsonburg, Aylmer and several
other larger centres.
While only a few individuals
managed to bring home ribbons
to Exeter, the team's depth was
quite evident when they garnered
most of their points in the relay
events.
In the relays, the Exeter crews
scored one first, two seconds, a
fourth, fifth and sixth,
Laurie Ross was the only in-
dividual winner when she
streaked home in a time of 43.4 to
take the back stroke in the girls'
11 and 12 age bracket. She beat
her closest competitor by a
second.
Elizabeth. Giffin picked up a
pair of third place finishes. Those
came in the girls' 13 and 14 back
stroke and the free style events.
Sheila McLeod was the only
other girl to pick up a ribbon,
placing fifth in the butterfly event
for 11 and 12 year-old swimmers.
Doug Fletcher and Ian Sweet
placed second and third
respectively in the breast stroke
for boys 11 and 12. Doug finished
with a time of 48.15 with Ian close
behind at 48.2.

Exeter and his assistant Norman
Spencer of Oakville.
They were suspended under
Canadian Trotting Association
and Ontario Racing Commission
rules governing the possession of
such devices and medicaments.

other area tracks.
CREDI TON DRAW
A draw sponsored by the
Crediton Community Parks
Board was won Monday night by
Kevin Bestard, RR 3, Parkhill.
The prize was a side of beef.
In the same age bracket, Doug
Raymond picked up a fourth
place ribbon in the back stroke,
while Scott Jamieson, swimming
in the butterfly event for boys
eight and under was tied for third
with a time of 27.3.
The only other boy to pick up
ribbons was Dave Shaw, who
came home in sixth place in the
butterfly for boys 10 and under,
and then scored a similar placing
in the back stroke.
The relay team picking up the
first place ribbon was the 11 and
12 year boys crew including Doug
Raymond, Doug Fletcher, Brian
Mercer and Rick Lindenfield.
Placing fifth in the same event
was another local entry con-
sisting of Bruce Shaw, Ian Sweet,
Steve Horn and Dave Bell.
The 10 and under boys ended up
with a second place ribbon, being
nipped by just one second by
Chatham. Team members are
Dave Shaw, Scott Pincombe,
Scott Batten and Rick Fletcher.
Another second place award
went to the 14 and under girls
entry consisting of Lynne Brooks,
Liz Giffin, Lynne Mercer and Jill
Tuckey.
The team of Wilma Van-
derlaan, Valerie Sweet, Cindy
Horn and Marie Jarvis came up
with a time of 2:43 to capture
fourth place for girls over 15,
while the girls under 12 placed
sixth. Members of the latter
foursome.are Laurie Ross, Cindy
Fisher, Cindy Beaver, and Sheila
McLeod.
The Exeter crew compiled 81
points in the swimming cham-
pionship, which was topped by
Chatham and London Gibbons
with 171 points each.
Strathroy, St. Thomas, Aylmer
and London Byron were the only
other teams who could better
Exeter's entry.

Lowered speed limits are also
lowering the traffic toll. Holi-
day weekends this summer
have been much safer than in
years before.
If the average auto, traveling
30 miles per hour, slows down
to 15 and then accelerates
back to 30 just once during the
course of a mile, it will burn 11
percent more fuel.
Try to avoid deep puddles.
Even if you drive very slowly
through them, the' fan may
throw water all over the
engine.
Paper air filter inside the air
cleaner should be changed
every 10,000 miles, or it will
choke off supply of air to
engine.
Australian engineer has found
a way to dispose of old car
tires. He freezes them to
almost 200'centigrade below
zero, and smashes them into
small particles that can be re-
used for rubber surfacing,
carpet backing, etc.
Your old tires ready for the icebox?
Maybe the car is, too. See the beauties

"Penalties should be given
anytime a stick is carried above
the hips. The penalty for cutting a
player in the face should be in-
creased."
"Fights have been going on in
hockey since the game was in-
vented, " said Jack Nairn "and
they will continue, A player
rarely gets hurt during a fight.
It's the other aspects of rough
play I would like stopped."
Nairn suggested a player be
ejected immediately from the
game for serious high sticking
offences and butt ending and
spearing. For the second offence
in one season, the penalty could
be increased to four or five
games.
In college hockey, players
engaging in a fight are
automatically out of the game
according to Bill Mahoney.
Mahoney commented "there
should be more match penalties
for attempting to injure. We don't
really need a lot of rule changes,
but just enforcement of those we
have."
Ron Horn feels hockey is no
more violent than in the past. He
concedes there is an upswing in
the use of the high stick.
Horn continued, "let's stop the
rough stuff that causes fights like
high sticking, spearing and butt
ending. In most cases there
wouldn't be a fight if somebody
wasn't aggravated in these other
ways."
According to Frank Funston a
lot of hockey injuries come from
accidental high sticks. He added,
"lt really boils down to en-
forcement of the rules we have
now."
Parental influence
Everyone polled by the T-A
agreed parents had a tremendous
influence on the conduct of their
sons on the ice.
Bill Mahoney suggested part of
the problem could stem from the

"I agree mothers screaming at
a game is not an ideal situation
but :if there was. .better

the league and coaches this could.
be alleviated," he continued.
Derry Doyle commented,
"parental influence causes .90 per,
cent of the prebleins,"
