Planning indoor pool
for Huron residents
full-time recreation director.
Other f acili ties operated by the
committee include a curling rink,
tennis court, wading pool and
eight-acre park,
Huron County is expected
tohave its first indoor swimming
pool by January 1,
That's the tentative date set by
the Vanastra Recreation Com-
mittee to complete their facility
at the former air force base at
Clinton,
The new four-lane 25-meter
pool has already been con-
structed this summer, ccording
to Wilfrid Schneider, and con-
struction on the enclosure will
commence early this fall.
It will be a block and steel
construction and will adjoin the
Vanastra gymnasium in the
housing subdivision,
The pool itself cost $40,000 and
the enclosure will be around
$35,000.
Mr. Schneider said the com-
mittee will be conducting a lot-
tery this fall to raise money for
the venture. First prize in that
draw will be a 1975 model
automobile.
He said the pool would be
available to all residents of
Huron, noting that to be practical
it had to be used by a large
number of people,
The pool adjoins the former
Protestant church at Vanastra
And it has been converted to a
gymnasium. Another section
housing a day-care centre and
change rooms will be added when
the pool enclosure is constructed.
In mid-September the
Vanastra committee will have a

Placing third in events for boys
13 and 14 were Terry Caldwell,
Paul Pooley and Dave Atthill.
The relay team made up of Perry
and Paul Pooley, Terry Caldwell
and Dave Atthill finished second.
In the individual medley for
boys 15 years and over Brian
Tuckey was second and Tony
Kyle third. These two youngsters
teamed with a couple of
"volunteers" of another genera-
tion Bill Batten and Bruce Shaw
to win the relay over two other
teams,
The best for Exeter in the un-
der eight years of age category
was Scott Jamieson with a first
in the fly event and a fifth in the
backstroke. Alex Balazd was
third in two events and Steve
Balazs was also third,
Exeter girls fared well in the
relays, Cindy Fisher, Laurie
Ross, Sheila McLeod and Cindy
Beaver were winners in' the 11
and 12 years section and Liz Gif r
fin, Lynne Mercer, Lynne Brooks
and Jill Tuckey were home first
for 13 and 14 years of age.
Placing third in the over 15
category were Val Sweet, Marie
Jarvis, Julianne Brittain and
Cindy Horn, In individual
classes, Laurie Ross gained a
first place ribbon and Sheila
McLeod was third in the 11 and
12 years group.
Liz Giffin was the top girl per-
former for the locals with a first
and two thirds in the 13 and 14
years section. Lynne Brooks was
second in the same division.
Val Sweet was third in the in-
dividual medley over 15.
Others who were not men-
tioned in the above listing and
will be representing Exeter in
the Western Ontario Regional
championships at Listowel,
August 28 are Chris McLeod,
Steve Batten, Becky Clarke,
Brenda Bell, Debbie Waldeck,
Erika Lyons, Catherine Ray-
mond, Danette McLeod, Becky
Clarke and Catherine Patterson.
Excellent performances by all
45 members of the team allowed
Exeter to win the Lake Huron
Zone swim championship held at
Mildmay, Saturday.
The Exeter youngsters turned
in a resounding win with a team
total of 2991/2 points and a lead of
93 points over second place
Listowel,
Dave Shaw competing in the
boys aged 10 years and under
was the top Exeter competitor of
the day winning two individual
events, finishing third- in
another and combined with Rick
Fletcher, Scott Pincombe and
Scott Batten to win the relay
class.
Rick Fletcher won the free
style in the same division and
was third in the butterfly.
In the boys 11 and 12 years
group, Doug Raymond was
across the finish line first in the
backstroke and third in the fly
while Doug Fletcher was the
breaststroke winner. Steve Horn
was runner-up in the backstroke.
The relay race for these boys
saw Exeter teams finish first
and second. The team composed
of Doug Raymond, Doug
Fletcher, Brian Mercer and Rick
Lindenfield were home first
followed by Bruce Shaw, Ian
Sweet, Steve Horn and Dave
Bell.
