Licari Fair promises .excitement
The 1974 edition of the Lucan
Fair promises to generate more
excitement than ever before.
Chairman Bob Taylor and his
many volunteers have
programmed a full three days of
entertainment aimed at pleasing
the entire family.
The show gets underway
Friday night, August 16 at 6 p.m,
when the gates of Lucan Com-munity arena and park swing
open and continues until 9 p,m,
gunday with continuous ac-
tivities.
The Fair officially opens at 7:15
Friday with a host of dignitaries
on hand. The guest speaker will
be London's deputy-mayor
Charlie Ross, He will be assisted
in the ceremonies by Ontario's
Minister of Agriculture Bill
Stewart, Huron MP Bob
McKinley, Lucan reeve Ivan
Hearn and Biddulph reeve Wilson
Hodgins.
Headlining the entertainment
program will be outstanding
western singer Skeeter Davis.
Miss Davis will be presenting five
shows to the grandstand
audience, There will be two
shows Friday evening, one
Saturday afternoon and two more
at night,
Skeeter's biggest hit to date is
her million seller, "The End of
the World, She exudes a
tremendous appeal to all ages
through her warmth and charm.
Saturday an English and
Western horse show will be held
with entrants competing for
Molson awards and $1,000 in prize
money.
Sunday's activities will feature
a parade starting at the South end
of town at 1 p.m.
Featured performers in the
parade will be the Bltiewater
Buccaneers Drum Corps, Also in
attendance will be the St. Marys
Starlettes, Zurich Citizens band,
the Young Concierors, the Dor-
chester Lions majorettes and the
Huron-Middlesex Cadet Carps.
Prizes will go the best
decorated bicycles, the best
declorated floats and the most
comical floats,
One hour after the parade, a
junior and senior talent show will
be held at the fir grounds. Big Al
from CKCO TV will be the master
of ceremonies,
At 4:30 Sunday at the outside
grandstand a group called
"Smorgasbord" will provide
music for the young and the
young at heart.
Throughout the three day
event, Irish entertainment can be
found inside the arena in the
Lions Den. Back by popular
request will be the Molly
McGuires.
Inside the arena, two floors of
exhibits put on by local mer-
chants and farm machinery
dealers will display everything
from flowers to harvest
machines.
Local and government agen-
cies will have interesting and
informative subjects covered in
original displays.
Cattle beasts were involved in
two of the seven accidents under
investigation this week by of-
ficers of the Ontario Provincial
street, London. Constable W. T.
Hodgins investigated.
One person was taken to
University hospital, London
suffering cuts and bruises
following a single vehicle ac-
cident on Biddulph township road
4-5 , just north of Highway 4,
Thursday evening.
The driver of the vehicle was
Robert Cornish, RR 1 Lucan, and
16 year-old Brian Cornish was
taken to hospital. Constable
Hodgins was the investigating
officer,
No one was injured when a
vehicle driven by Nancy
Hemaldi, Youngstown, Ohio went
out of control on Highway 7 in
West Nissouri township. Con-
stable W. R. Dither listed
damages at $600.
Constable N. A. Campbell
estimated damages at $300 when
vehicles driven by Blair Andrew
Stewart and William Paff, both of
Ailsa Craig collided on Ailsa
Craig's Main street. The mishap
occurred Saturday.
Police detachment at Lucan
Early Sunday morning, an
animal owned by William
Phillips, Denfield was killed
when it was struck by a vehicle
driven by George Vero of
Woodstock.
Constable W. T. Hodgins set
damages to the vehicle at $700
and the animal' loss at $400.
Five minutes before midnight
the same day, an animal owned
by John Walls, RR 2 Denfield,
was only slightly injured when in
collision with a vehicle driven by
William Legg, RR 2 London.

estimated damages at $300.
The first of two Tuesday
mishaps occurred on Lucan's
Main street at 11:35 a.m. A
vehicle driven by James Van
Geel, 250 Main Street, Lucan was
in collision with an unattended
vehicle owned by Harold
Hodgins, 189 Frank Street,
Lucan. Damages were set at $150
by Constable Munro.
Damages reached $2,000 in a
crash on Highway 4, two miles
north of Birr at 7 p.m. Tuesday,
Involved were vehicles driven by
Robert Puthie, Tiverton and Glen

and Heather holidayed last week
in Southampton.
Thirty members of the Maslen
family and friends gathered at
the home of Mr. & Mrs. Len
Maslen on Saturday evening in
honour of the 25th birthday of Bob
and also on receipt of his License
Journeyman Electrician Cer-
tificate, The party finished up
with a steak barbecue and Bob
received many gifts. Guests were

Couple back
from Europe
Mr. & Mrs. Ivan Hearn have
returned from a 23 day vacation
in Europe. They visited England,
spending a week in London where
their accommodation was within
walking distance of Buckingham
Palace, Westminster Abbey, the
Parliament Buildings and No. 10
Downing St. Tours were taken to
Stratford-on-Avon Windsor
Castle, Blenhem Castle the an-
cestral home of Sir Winston
Churchill and to his buriel place
in Bladen.
In Scotland they toured
Glasgow, Loch Lomond, Edin-
burgh and Edinburgh Castle and
spent two nights at Motherwell in
the Clyde Valley, the home of
Mrs. Hearn's great-great-

daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Robert
Taylor, Lucan to Brian Herbert,

Herbert.
Rev. Ewart Madden officiated
and music was provided by Mrs,
Marilyn Dykeman. Gail Traviss,
cousin of the bride, sang a solo.
Given in marriage by her
father, the bride wore an arnel
gown, covered with sheer
polyester, featuring an empire
waist accented with guipure lace.
The scooped neckline extended
into a lace collar dotted with seed
pearls. The long sheer sleeves
ended in a ruffle trimmed with
lace.
A long cathedral train with
appliques of guipure lace and
pearls fell from the waist. A short
four tiered scalloped illusion veil
was dotted with pearls and held in
place by a dainty pearled lace
headpiece.
The bride carried a cascade of
red sweetheart roses and white
Mums.
Janet Smith was the maid of
honour and attendants
were Karen Herbert,
bridemaid; Karen Taylor, junior
bridesmaid and Leanne Massey,
flowergirl.
The attendants' gowns were of
pink swiss dot accented by an
empire waistline trimmed with
streamers and a deep ruffle hem.
The bridemaids carried
nosegays of pink sweetheart
roses with pink and white car-
