News
The fourth spiritual law "I
must receive Christ into my
life" was the theme for Sunday's
sermon by Rev. Ewart Madden.
A poster was on display
illustrating "Self-controlled
Life" and "Christ-controlled
Life".
Rev. Madden said Christ will
not force Himself into any life.
Each person must do his or her
part and invite Christ to come
into their hearts. Life can be
changed through love and faith,
as God blots out all past, present
and future sins if we will open our
hearts to Him. Copies of the
"Laws" were available.
Mrs. Madden led in a joyous
Gospel Hymn-sing. Mr. Madden
gave a special word of thanks to
Eileen Becker who has played the
organ for the month of July. He
invited everyone to attend church

Anglican Church each Sunday at

Swim Team
hosts meet
By B. McHENRY
Lucan's swim team hosted its
first exhibition meet against
Exeter last Wednesday, Although
defeated by a larger and more
experienced Exeter squad, the
team put forth a very strong and
exciting performance.
Outstanding efforts came from
the 13 year old girls as Cindy
Mayo, Sheryl Noyes, Christine
Stull and Janet Goddard won
both the 200 metre medley and
free style relays, as well as
taking top spots in a number of
other individual events.
Bob Watson and Ron Glenn, in
the boys 11 and 12 division, placed
in the top three finish positions in
at least 3 events each.
The swim team will be in
competitive action again today,
August 1st at 6:30 taking on St.
Marys in that town. With one
meets experience, and a number
of swimmers returning from
vacation, the team will be looking
for a win on Thursday.
The third session of in-
structional swim classes began
on Monday and has the highest
number of candidates enrolled
thus far. Registration for the
final session of the classes,
Learn-to-swim, pre-beginners,
beginner and survival, will be
held on Friday at 1 p.m.
Six ladies have taken ad-
vantage of the adult swim classes
to improve their swimming style.
Any other adults interested in
some swim activity are invited to
attend these sessions on
Tuesdays and Thursdays from
6:30 to 7 p.m.
The Red Cross testing on
Saturday went exceptionally
well. Out of six taking junior, six
passed, three took intermediate
and passed, while in senior three
took the test, but only two passed.
Congratulations and keep up the
good work.
Saturday afternoon they
travelled to Granton to play
Bryanston in an exhibition game
and dumped the home team by a
11-2 score.
Sunday night Lucan defeated a
stubborn Beechwood team by a
score of 6-4. Lucan led by Alex
Boyes' pitching and hitting,
jumped into an early lead only to
have Beechwood fight back.
Doug Johnston came in to relieve
Boyes and extinguish the Beach-
wood rally and preserve the win.
Juvenile
Friday night Lucan travelled to
Parkhill and were defeated 10-3
by the home team as the Parkhill
pitcher allowed just eight hits.
Monday night the Lucan bats
came back to life along with the
excellent pitching of Bob Smith to
defeat Ailsa Craig by a 39-0 score.
Smith blanked Ailsa Craig on
just one hit in limiting the home
team to just five base runners,
Brian Noyes led the Lucan team
offensively by batting 7 for 7 and
knocking in nine runs.

Raise money
for swim party
The children attending the
Summer School being held at the
Lucan Public School held a circus
and penny carnival last Friday to
raise money for a swimming
party. This week they will visit
the firehall, post office and
library.
Members of the St. Johns'
Ambulance Corps from London
will be making a presentation
during the week. On Friday, the
youngsters will bring and show
their various hobbies, and the
group is ready to start on their
float for the Fair.
Children from the Lucan
Playground visited the Lucan
firehall and Post Office Tuesday
morning. They enjoyed a con-
ducted tour through both
buildings and an explanation of
the function of each department.
During the coming week
we will be looking at the Past,
Present and Future of our world.
There will be an Adult Day where
the children will be doing adult
things.
Parents are advised that there
will be no school on Monday,
August 5th, due to the holiday.
In Monday's games the Bid-
dulph Boys upended the Legion
while the Firemen edged out the
Lions and Hardys upended
Walloy-Hearn.
