YD. Red, Green, Gold, Orange and Blue park on the East side. Because of the location of the Port Blake Conservation Area and its proximity to the Lake Huron Water supply plant, the park is an excellent place for an educational trip by any group. The Water Supply Plant offers tours to the public and the park has the facilities for groups to eat and relax as well as enjoy the lakefront. The Conservation Authority is currently in the process of having an outdoor education manual made up, consisting of the Conservation Areas and their potential use for outdoor education. The Port Blake Conservation Area is included in this manual. The park is open seven days a week from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. throughout the summer. A small entrance fee is being charged to park users and seasons tickets are available for those who in- tend to visit this park and other Authority parks quite often, The small fee is considered necessary by the Conservation Authority due to the costs involved in developing and maintaining the park. The Conservation Authority is confident that the Port Blake Conservation Area will provide the public with a much-needed beach and picnic park, and en- courages the public to use the park for their enjoyment and relaxation. ELSTON Mrs. William Warner, Toronto accompanied by Mrs. Ron Binceant and boys of England, sister of Mrs. Melville Buswell, whom she hasn't seen for 21 years, spent a few days with Mr. & Mrs. Melville during the week. On the Sunday following a family gathering was held in Toronto celebrating Mrs. War- ner's birthday. There were two sons and four daughters present. One brother in England was unable to be present. Mr. & Mrs. Buswell and daughters, Jean and Pearl, were able to be present for the oc- casion. Mr. & Mrs. Mervin Elston attended a birthday party on Sunday in honor of Mr. & Mrs. Don Fraeleigh, Brussels and also Mrs. Mervin Elston. The party was held in Wellwood Park, Arva. The park is located 2 miles north of Grand Bend, at the junction of Highways No. 21 and No. 83 and is immediately south of the Lake Huron Water Supply Plant. The west side of the park :s on the Lake Huron shoreline and is one of the area's finer sand beaches. The 17 acres of land are part of the property owned by the Lake Huron Water Supply Plant and have been turned over to the Ausable-Bayfield Conservation Authority for development. The area consists of grassy tableland, a moderately sloping bank on the lakefront and a sand beach. Shade trees dot the grassy area making it ideal for picnics and the view of Lake Huron along with the beach are major at- tractions. Lake Huron has attracted many tourists from outside the area and the result has been the strip of cottage development along the lakefront. Therefore, very little of the beach is ac- cessible to local inhabitants or passing tourists. With the public beach at Grand Bend catering mainly to the younger crowds and being very commercialized, the need for a picnic and beach park is evident. With these things in mind, the Conservation Authority is developing the Port Blake Conservation Area into a beautiful little park by adding the necessary facilities needed for the visitor's convenience. The beach front is well manicured and steps are currently being constructed to make access to the beach even -more convenient for visitors and to protect the bank from erosion caused by heavy use. A new changehouse with running water and washroom facilities has been constructed and picnic tables have been set up throughout the park overlooking the lakefront. Access to the park is from Highway 21 immediately south of the Lake Huron water supply plant. There is an entrance road with a gatehouse and a separate exit road by-passing the gatehouse. The traffic through the park is on a one-way circular system and there are three parking lots running parallel to the beach front. These parking lots are situated so that one will be used for temporary washroom and changehouse parking and the other two for picnic and beach parking. Along the south side of the park there is a small area of reforestation. Other landscaping and planting will be carried out by the Authority this fall and next spring. Plantings have been designed to increase the aesthetic value of .the park as well as in- crease shade and act as wind- breaks. Development of another parking lot and sports facilities will occur in the future if these facilities are needed. Visitors to the park will also have access to a concession booth being operated adjacent to the WOOD PATIO DOORS Dominion sash wood patio door 6'0" x 6'8" tempered insulated glass, screen, all hardware. 309.46 Satin pered stripped.
