but Old Jack, my brother-in-law
and myself, didn't belabour the
tragic theme. We laughed until
we were purple in the face at all
the things we had got away with,
not all the things that had got
away with so many of us.
It was also nice to see our

such a handsome young man I
can't believe we called him "Old

could wipe two recalcitrant

dust off the window-sill, if such a
silly thing ever occurred to me.
As yOu can see, this has been a
hard column to write. And
probably a mighty difficult one to
read.
