The Crediton W,I, held their
May meeting with educational
and cultural affairs their theme
and grandmothers their honored
guests.
The new president, Mrs. Cliff
Kenney opened the meeting with
the ode and collect, Roll call was
answered by 38 members and
guests, naming their first public
school teacher and the location of
the school.
After the business, Mrs. Earl
Neil was chairman for the
program. The W.I. carol was
sung. Readings were given by
Mrs. Gordon Morlock, Mrs.
Donald Davey and Kathy Davey
gave several accordion selec-
tions.
Prizes were given to 28 grand-
mothers. The prize for the one
with the most grandchildren
named after her went to Mrs. Jud
Dykeman, for the youngest
grandmother, to Mrs. Harvey
Hodgins.
Mrs. Earl Neil gave the motto
"We think if we bear tomorrow's
burden". The exhibit made for
the District annual was presented
by Mrstntiodginsend Mrs. 'Gerald ,
Dearing.
Mrs. Gordon Morlock con-
ducted a spelling bee. The
meeting closed with a song.
. Hostesses for the September
group served a lunch of
tea biscuits with topping.
Zion anniversary
Sunday was the anniversary of
Zion United Church. The choir,
under the leadership of Rev.
Douglas Warren, provided
special music in the morning

About 90 ladies and girls
gathered in the church basement
Wednesday evening to honor
Darlene Passmore with a bridal
shower.
The evening began with a
contest led by Mrs. Edwin Miller
followed by several readings
given by Mrs. Rick Mellenger,
'Mrs. David Passmore, Mrs.
Howard Cunnington and Barbara
Miller,
Piano duets were played by
Janet Bray and Sandra Stewart.
While Darlene sat in the
decorated chair, Joanne Hodgert
read an address. Mrs. William
Rohde was the chairlady of the
program.
Joanne handed the gifts from
the wishing well to Darlene. After
opening them she thanked
everyone and invited them to her
open house June 16 and her
reception at the Pineridge
Chalet, June 29.
All joined in singing "For she's
a Jolly Good Fellow". Cake and
ice cream was then served.

Last week's conference

Funeral .services were held
Friday afternoon at one o'clock
at the Methodist church in Mio,
Michigan for Mrs. -Wellington
Maier. Mr. Maier was born and
raised in this area,
She is survived by two sons Bill
and Bob, and a daughter (jean)
Mrs..Hoy Boerner, all of Mio, and.
nine grandchildren.
Pallbearers. were four grand-
sons Bill and Jim Maier, Michael
and Bob Boerner, two nephews,
Ken Ellis of Sarnia and George
Maier of Detroit.
