highway, even in the new car
paid for by our insurance com-
pany, replacing the one that was
wrecked last month in a collision.
True, the insurance companY
was unbelievably ac-
commodating and our son was
.unbelievably lucky to escape
injury. He might be dead or
bravely learning to live out his
life in a wheel chair.
But it could happen to me
anytime, and the wheel chair
could be for me. We all have
friends, acquaintances, or
relatives whose experience
makes us wonder about our own
chances.
I go right along with your
editorial last week supporting
Judge Glenn Hayes. The law
should act as a deterrent to drunk
driving, and he should suspend or
revoke the licence consistently.
Taking care not to inconvenience
people who are found guilty of
impaired driving will get us
now here,
But even taking the driver off
the road in every case after
damage has been done is not
enough. We must keep him from
going on the road in charge of a
vehicle while he is impaired.
The drinker has lost both, the
ability to drive properly and the
good sense to realize that he
should not drive. I am convinced,
therefore, that the people who
served him the drinks should be
made responsible for keeping
him away from the wheel of his
car.
I mean, the bartender and the
innkeeper. I mean the committee
of a club that holds a party. I
mean any citizen who serves
drinks to his guests.
This would require care and
judgement by the bartender, and
even a check of people leaving
hotel parking areas. It would
require an extra committee for
the club party, to see to the safety
of departing guests. It would
require the citizen who serves
drinks in his home to keep his
guest overnight or send him
home in a taxi.
All of which seems like a lot of
fuss and bother that shouldn't be
necessary, because a man should
know enough not to drink and
drive. But much of the time he
doesn't know enough not to, and I
am convinced that we must make

have winterized water and
Sewage systems so the camp can
be open during the winter for
snowmobile enthusiasts and
winter vacationers,
The. Luther's have made their
permanent home on the grounds'
of the park to provide main-
tenance and protection of the
grounds year round. The Mac-
Millan's also live on the camp
during the summer months in
their own trailer.
The two couples will be
managing the camp on their own
throughout the season, "unless
response to the camp warrants
getting some extra help,"
MacMillan said.
Some of the features planned
for phase I are a swimming pool,
a children's playground, hor-
seshoes} badminton and other
activities, as the customer
requires them. The MacMillan's
and Luther's are open to
suggestions from their campers.
Mrs, MacMillan has been
collecting old tractor and truck
tires to be painted bright colors
and incorporated in the
childrerl's playground as •slides,
swings and an obstacle course.
They are hoping that 'the
swimming pool will be installed
before the June 1 opening. Mrs.
MacMillan said they are hoping
to eventually have two swimming
pools, one for adults only and one
for children. Until the park gets
big enough to support two pools
there will be special, hour* set
aside for adult Swimming only.
In the center of the camp iS, a
large, modern 'washroom
building. The MacMillans and
Luthers are quite proud of 'this
facility because it is bright and
airy with plenty of room for all
the campers' needs. The
washrooms are equipped with
shower stalls which include a
little change room for privacy
and a stool to sit on.
Attached to the washrooms will
be a temporarY laundry room
housing a washer and dryer for
the campers. Next year they hope
to put an addition on the building
for a more permanent laundry
facility.
The water and sewage facilities
in the camp are large enough to
serve a town of 350.
The Country Store and Park
Office has everything that the
dinner might want including
groceries, snacks, first aid items
and camping supplies.
The porch in front of the store
serves as a gathering place for
the campers and will have some
chairs and a sun umbrella SO that
the proprietors and their guests
can enjoy the cool evening breeze
from Lake Huron about a mile
away.
"We are concerned about
people and their comfort," Mrs.
MacMillan said, "and we hope to
have a nice area for family
camping where there is
something for the whole family to
do."
this extra effort.
It could keep you or me out of
that wheel chair. Judge Hayes
can't do it alone. He needs our
help.
Yours truly,
Mrs. Edith Dixon,
