well as the fire hall.
The present radio system is
operated by Dale's Answering
Service, who will continue to
receive the fire calls and activate
the siren. In the past, it has been
necessary for the men at fires to
relay information to the fire hall
via the answering service and
this will no longer be required.
Fire Chief Gary Middleton said
the new setup would be a vast
improvement over the present
radio equipment. He added that
the present equipment has "dead
spots" in some areas of the
territory covered by the firemen.
The new system will also be
hooked into the central dispatch
of the Huron Mutual Aid System.
Fire Chief Middleton also
released statistics for the six
months ending April 30.
In that period there were 22 fire
calls, 10 in Exeter, six in
Usborne, four in Stephen and two
in Hay.
Estimated damage was $56,525
to buildings and $76,135 to con-
tents. Included were the fire at
Graham Arthur Motors in Exeter
and the total destruction of a
Woodham home.
Five of the calls were between
midnight and 8:00 a.m., seven
between 8:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m.
and ten between 6:00 p.m. and
midnight. Actual time at the fires
for the firemen were 35 hours.
Eight firemen sustained minor
injuries in the fires. Two were off
work for four days due to in-
juries.
were Wilbur McBride, Kitchener
and Mr. & Mrs. Stewart Beattie,
Wingham.
Mr. Elzar Mousseau who has
been hospitalized in Seaforth, has
returned home.
