Mr. & Mrs. Brian Carey, Mr. & After a year of hard work and money raising, the grade eights from Huron Centennial School, Brocefield, were on their way to the elegant Chateau Laurier in Canada's capital city, Ottawa, On Tuesday, May 7, each student brought his luggage to school and appeared quite prepared for three days of sightseeing. At 11:50 the buses were on their way to the Stratford CN Station. We decided to go by train because our flight at the Bracefield Airport was can- celled, When we arrived at the Toronto Union Station, we left our baggage there and walked to the Toronto Dominion Centre, Here, we went up 56 storeys to the ob- servation gallery where we had a beautiful view of our provincial capital, before continuing by train on to Ottawa. After a fast bus ride to the Chateau from the train station in Ottawa, all students were in their rooms by 12 o'clock. The next morning, many tired students assembled in the main lobby of the Chateau, ready to walk to the War Museum, Here, we were introduced to the tour with an excellent film about fields of battle. The students had an opportunity to examine ar- ticles from the first World War and the 2nd World War, The displays certainly made the history of wars a reality. At 10:30, the group reached Parliament Hill, to take a guided tour of the Parliament buildings. After a visit to- the Senate, the House of Commons, the Library, and the Peace Tower, we went to the Confederation Building for lunch. We were fortunate enough to observe the Speaker's Parade and get into the Visitor's Gallery of the House of Commons to watch an exciting session of parliament. This was a highlight of our trip. ' . '' .•.: We'll Do the Job Right... We watched some of Canada's history being made, as this was the day that the Liberals were defeated on a vote pertaining to the budget. A tour of the National Arts centre was a change of pace, as we viewed the modern ar- chitecture of the elaborate bending. Anne Murray was to perform there that evening and it would have been fun to watch her, but we had other plans. Our boat cruise on the Ottawa River gave us a good view of Rideau Falls, the E.B. Eddy Paper Company, the Prime Minister's residence, and a look at the library, Soon it was back to the hotel for an enjoyable splash in the pool. Thursday morning, many weary bodies struggled to the main lobby. At this time, we started an interesting three hour bus tour around the city of Ottawa. By 1:00 we were on our way to the Museum of Science and Technology. There was something for everyone here- buttons to push-experiments to take part in-even one that made your hair stand on end from static electricity, Following this, we visited Lansdowne Park and the Civic Centre, This is where the Ottawa Roughriders play. Hockey games and the Ice Capades are also held at the Civic Centre. By 5:30 we were on the train heading home. Although everyone was dead tired, the three day trip had been educational and enjoyed very much by all, Our capita] city was even more beautiful and im- pressive than we had imagined. 1.111. oil Mrs. William Love was guest of honor at the 20th birthday party of Hillcrest Rebekah Lodge No. 372, Wednesday night at St. Marys.
