Ontario Provincial Police are
investigating Toronto lawyer,
Joseph Burnett's involvement in
the potato wholesale business in
Metro Toronto, Solicitor General
George Kerr, indicated in the
Legislature.
Mr. Kerr said Mr. Burnett's
business operations are also part
of an investigation into laun-
dering of money in Toronto,
Apparently the three largest
potato wholesale companies in
the Toronto area have closed
corporate ties and farmers have
complained they Cannot get a fair
price in dealing with them.
Mr. Burnett owns a Sudbury
fruit company and lent
$600,000.00 to Roeco and Gordon
Cappuccitty, the largest dealers
in Ontario grown potatoes iii the
Metro area. Mr. Kerr said the
investigation into the potato
industry does not necessarily
include just Mr. Burnett. He said
it might lead to charges under the
Combines Investigation Act.
Three major Oil companies
have increased gasoline prices to
dealers by more than 9c a gallon
which will probably mean a 10c
increase at the minimum to
Ontario's motorists.
Premier William Davis said
there are no plans to review or
stall the increase in gasoline
prices at the moment. He could
not see any reason for prices
going up as much as they have
which might suggest that there
will be some possible future
Ontario action over oil and
gasoline pricing.
It was estimated that the stock
of oil and oil products produced at
the old price of $4.00 a barrel for
oil at the well head, would last
until May. Mr. Davis told the
Legislature he found it hard to
understand an increase beyond
the estimated 7c that was agreed
to at the Ottawa Conference six
weeks ago.
Ontario residents pay a total of
$44 million for each lc increase in
the price of a gallon of gasoline
and fuel. The Provincial tax on
gasoline is 19c a gallon.
The Ontario Government has
changed its mind for the second
time and decided denturists
should be allowed to work in-
dependently of dental supervision

if they passed qualifying
examinations, Health Minister
Frank Miller said that the den-
turists who wrote the
examination to qualify to work
under dentists now would be able
to work independently.
However, they will have to pass
upgrading examinations when
they are set. Denture therapists
will not be allowed to make
partial dentures except under
dentists' supervision. They will
be restricted to full upper and
lower plates for fitting in a mouth
where no teeth remain,
Making a partial denture is a
much more complicated
procedure than making a full
plate, according to Mr, Miller,
because of possible problems
with adjacent teeth. So this work
should be supervised by a dentist.
Ontario Hydro is to be allowed
to expropriate certain lands
required for relocation of a
Canadian Pacific Rail line to
make way for the controversial
dam near Arnprior. But it has
been refused the go ahead on
other land needed only during
dam construction and for a tran-
smission line,
Hydro may re-apply for ex-
propriation of further land when
it can state more precisely how
much land it needs and where the
transmission line will be built.
Otherwise the way is cleared for
the $50 million dam.
Environment Minister,
William Newman, confirmed the
Enquiry Officer's findings that
Hydro's evidence about how
much land it needed and for what
purposes was vague and un-
convincing.
Ontario Housing Minister
Sidney Handleman, said this
week that house prices are on the
way down and will bring savings
that will reach buyers on lower
incomes. He attributed this to the
Province's new land speculation
tax.
However, the opposition
pointed out that the facts do no
seem to bear this out as housing
costs rose 6 percent within the
area covered by the Toronto Real
Estate Board in the month of
April.
Ten or twelve Ontario doctors
are being investigated by the
Government for fraud in
collecting fees under the Ontario
Health Insurance Plan.
A Ministry of Health official
told the Legislature Public
Accounts Committee, that with
only 400,000 residents paying
their own premium, op-
portunities for fraud are mostly
with doctors.
He said checks are run by
sending letters to all the patients
seen in one month by a doctor. In
a smaller city or town the letters
go to patients of all doctors. In
Metro Toronto doctors are
selected according to areas.
Doctors do not know when areas
will be checked,
The letters ask for verification
that the patient was seen at the
time indicated by the doctor and
for the same illnesses. The
Ministry official said about 18 of
10,000 letters show a discrepancy.
Further investigations arecarried
out, first by the College of
Physicians and Surgeons then by
the Government.

Automatic Dishwashers get dishes really clean.
The Kelvinator dishwasher is designed for thorough, total cleaning of
every dish and utensil ... regardless of where the dishes are placed in the
upper or lower rack. A spray arm operates under each rack to direct
powerful jet streams of water into and over your dishes at hygienic
germ-killing temperatures of 150°..
There's no need to pre-rinse with a Kelvinator dishwasher, cooked-on egg,
peanut butter and mustard come right off! There is no messy screen to
clean, soft leftovers are liquefied and flushed down the drain. Kelvinator
will save you work and time. You'll wonder how you managed without it.
