Then the place entirely disappeared. Some of the houses were moved. The place we lived in came in two parts, a house and a store were joined together. I would appreciate any in- formation regarding this hamlet: its name, why it was wiped out, and etc. I was told that it was because the railroad bypassed it; also told that a group of witches had settled there. Hope some one can help me. County police Continued from front page municipal chiefs would relinquish their present posts. Four of them would become superintendents of divisions and the fifth would head the entire force and be responsible for its administration. Chief Day stressed that the OPP would continue to be called in for special investigations. Initial salary costs would be lower under the county force because the average wages of a first class officer in a local town is about $1,200 less than that of an OPP officer. William Harris of Wingham who is co-chairman of the Huron County ad-hoc committee on policing said his group would likely recommend to county council that Clinton be headquarters for the new force. He said conversations with reeves in the five county towns indicated preferences for the county force. Harris said a whole new communications system will be set up at the May 9 meeting. The five municipal forces already operate on the same frequency.
