Mrs. Ward Hodgins, Jennifer and Megan spent Tuesday with the former's parents, Mr. & Mrs. Arthur Cunningham, Ward joined them when visiting with Mr. & Mrs. M, H. Hodgins Sunday along with Mr, & Mrs. E. Wayne Hodgins, of London Twp. Carolyn Madden and David Zalusk of Etobicoke were weekend guests with the former's parents, Rev. & Mrs. Ewart Madden. Mr. & Mrs. Paul Melanson of the Armed Services Base, Camp Borden, were weekend visitors with their parents, Mr. & Mrs, Ed. Melanson and Mr. & Mrs. Wm, Froats. Young people to help in cleanup The annual 'clean-up' at Camp Kee-Mo-Kee is scheduled for Saturday, April 27. Lucan & Clandeboye Church people have been invited to polish up the kitchen, Those helping will bring their own equipment and lunch. Operation clean-up commences at 9:30 a.m. Although the Atoms did not win any trophies this year, their play improved remarkably from the start of the season to their last game. In the Lucan Atom Tour- nament they faced Norwich in the opening game and were defeated. Travelling to Forest to take part in the Annual Silver Stick Tournament, Lucan lost out to Alvinston in the opening round in a heart-breaking overtime game. When the 0.M.H.A. Playoffs came along Lucan advanced into the second round by defeating Mt. Brydges two games straight. f..!arnia Indian Reserve then snuffed out any hope of an all Ontario title when they defeated the home towners 2 games to 1. In the league playoffs, Lucan faced Belmont and Huron Park in a round-robin series. At the end of the round-robin Lucan and Belmont were tied for first place which forced an extra game with Belmont winning the game and the trophy while Lucan had to settle for runner-up spot. DALEY'S WEEKLY COMMENTS Snow in north By SID DALEY Trust you all had a Happy Easter despite the weather, I spent mine with the senior member of the family in Sault Ste. Marie and am happy to advise he is still in fine health. Brother that weather though,still about eighteen inches of snow in the bush. There you are snow vehicle enthusiasts, its not necessary to put that machine away yet, take a weekend andgo up to the Soo,lots of Crown Land up there to enjoy yourselves. Attention all participants in Branch 540's cheque draw, the March winner was Mrs. Alice Gilmour, RR 2 Ailsa Craig, Ontario, to whom we offer our congratulations - incidentally I'm saving my win for the next million dollar draw seeing as I didn't make it in the last one. Comrade P. Goring's name was drawn for the $20.00 general meeting attendance draw and not being in attendance makes the draw worth $25.00 for the May meeting. Seen in the papers ... murder may be okey ... but be careful where you dump the body, A man in West Virginia, who was acquitted on a murder charge has been charged with littering. After he shot a man in self defense, he threw the body in the Ohio River. He was cleared on the murder charge but now faces a charge of "stream littering." - oh hum, yu just can't win, Our safety tip is for those who do not regularly check the lights on their cars: "One headlight is enough if the other driver guesses correctly which side it's on." Smilin' Carl Stuckless advises Branch 540's 3rd annual fish fry is in the offing. Now its Up to the energetic smelt fishermen to come up with the fish. If you have more than you can use just drop them off at Branch 540 and Smilin' Carl will look after them and when we get enough all members will be advised of the date and time through the medium of Comments. The win proved to be the highlight of the year for the midgets as they had run into tough luck during the season. In the Silver Stick, Lucan downed Thedford in the opening game only to lose back to back games to Watford and Ilderton. In the O.M,H.A, playoffs, Lucan advanced to the semifinals before bowing out to Mildmay. Lucan defeated Dorchester, West Lorne and Watford to get into the semifinals. Something new appeared on the hockey scene when the Lucan Juvenile team came into being. The team's schedule was shor- tened when they found out that league playoffs were not to take place and they lost to Pt. Edward in the opening round of the O.M.H.A. Playoffs. Lucan moved up one position in the league standings in Junior 'D' this year, finishing in fifth place. In the playoffs, Lucan faced Clinton and were knocked out of further action in the fourth game of their best three out of five series, Oak for a return series defeating Royal Oak in the first game and then faced the Royal Oak "A" team the following day and were losing 2-0 when the game was called at the end of the first period. In league action Lucan won the Shamrock "B" trophy defeating St. Thomas and Huron Park in a round robin playoff. The Bantams lost in the Silver Stick opener to the home team, Watford, and were knocked out of the Ilderton tournament in the second round by Oshweken after defeating Cayuga in the opening round. In the Lucan Tournament, the home team was edged out in the final " by Hensall. Lucan advanced into the final by defeating South London in the first game. Lucan faced Dorchester in the 0.M.H.A. playoffs and were edged out two games to one. Lucan gained some revenge as they defeated Dorchester and St. Thomas in a roundrobin series and captured the "B" trophy in league play. Lucan Midgets won the "A" trophy for their division Monday night when they thumped Ilderton by a 7-1 score. Price of McCormick Home, Mr. & Mrs. Michael Murdy, London, and Mrs. Ed. Morris and family of Mount Forest. Mr, & Mrs. Donald Abbott & Paul of Manitoulin Island called on Lucan and district friends over the weekend. Mr. & Mrs. Allen Tindall of Wiarton spent the weekend with the latter's parents, Mr. & Mrs. Cliff Abbott. Rev. John Hofland and Mr. & Mrs. Al Bromwich and family of North Bay, formerly of Lucan visited Lucanites in the McCormick Home last week. Miss Carol Haskett of Kit- chener, daughter of Mr. & Mrs, Glen Haskett, Mr. Carl Mueller and Mrs. Rachel Tuke spent the weekend with the latter's sister- in-law, Mrs. Emily Nixon of St. Clair, Michigan. PEE WEE The Pee Wees also participated in the Silverstick Tournament which was held at Watford. Lucan was knocked out of further play when they lost to Sarnia Township in the first round. In our own Pee Wee Tournament, Lucan advanced into the finals against Ilderton after polishing off Hensall. Ilderton defeated Lucan for the championship with the locals winning the H. B. Langford trophy given to the most sport- manlike team on and off the ice. Lucan hosted a team from Royal Oak Michigan for a two game exhibition series with Lucan winning both games quite handily. Lucan travelled to Royal German shepherd killed in one of area accidents A German Shepherd dog was killed in one of four accidents investigated this week by officers of the Ontario Provincial Police detachment at Lucan. At 11:15 p,m. Wednesday, the dog was killed when struck by a vehicle driven by Andrew, Johnston, 920 Glennbanner road, London on Highway 4 at Birr. Constable B. D. Munro estimated damages at $300, Damages were listed at $1,500 early Thursday morning by Constable W, T. Hodgins when a vehicle driven by Yvonne Gadwa, 131 Victoria street, Centralia rolled over on Highway 4 at Clandeboye. Also Thursday morning, a parked unattended vehicle owned by Henry De Vries,. Ottawa was struck by a hit and run driver on Highway 23 at Whalens Corners. Damages were set at $100 by Constable N. A. Campbell. Friday afternoon on Highway 4 north of the Ausable River bridge vehicles driven by Alfred Bromwich, North Bay and Thomas McMahon, Clinton were in collision. Constable D. R. Vance estimated damages at $450, The two breakins investigated by the detachment officers Monday. At the Clan-Lan 'Apartments Laundromat at Clandeboye a small amount of cash from a cigarette machine and a table radio were stolen. The same day, a small amount of change was reported taken from the office of Rydall Tile at Elginfield. Brownies make beeswax candles The Brownies met after school Wednesday to enroll Giselle Williams and to work on their beeswax candles. Thirty-three Brownies with their Brown Owl Ruth Ann Curtis, several mothers and friends, 10 guides and their leaders Mrs. George Cun- ningham and Mrs. Phillip Stonehouse attended the matinee performance of the Ice Capades Saturday in the London Gardens. Tammy McRoberts aild Tracey Cannon were picked from the Lucan group to ride the train in one of the scenes and many of the girls received balloons. Food features WI meeting "Your Dollar's Worth in Food" was presented in the Thorndale Community Center, Wednesday and Thursday of last week, by the Home Economics Branch of the Ontario Ministry of Agriculture and Food, with the Home Economists of Elgin and Mid- dlesex in charge, Lucan W.I, president Mrs. Harold Snelgrove, secretary Mrs. James Lockyer, Mrs. Ewart Madden and Mrs. L. Ashton attended the seminar on Thur- sday. Sunshiners plan to join Legion trip Plans were made Thursday for members of the Sunshine Group of the Lucan Senior Citizens Club, to go on a Legion sponsored bus trip May 16. The bus • will hold only 41 and all members wishing to go are asked to submit their names to the executive at once. Euchre was enjoyed and was played for ladies' lone hands, won by Mrs. R. Atkinson and men's high, won by Ben Kelly. WIN AGAIN Mrs. Howard Currie, owner of Brialin Kennels showed her Verbar Johan Cryuff of Brialin at the Kent Kennel Club Dog Show, in Chatham, Friday. Verbar walked off with the Winner's Male and Best of Winners, picking up four more points. Seniors participate in hat fashion show One hundred and fifty senior citizens from six London Centres attended an Easter hat fashion show in the White Oaks Shopping Mall Tuesday. A splendid program preceded the photographing and judging of the Easter bonnets. Miss L. E. Abbott of the McCormick Home was 3rd prize winner (a $10 voucher from Woolco), for a huge hat made of coloured egg car- tons, decorated with flowers and an Easter Bunny. Everyone' present received daffodils, a bottle of cologne and a cake of Spanish soap, Walkathon planned The executive of the Lucan branch of the Canadian Cancer Society Met at the United Church last Monday night to finalize plans fOr the annual Bible Society Walk, to help provide Bibles for developing countries, The walk will be held beginning and ending at the United Church. The superintendents of each Sunday School have sponpor sheets. Bunny Bundle walk Several young people from the community participated in the Bunny Bundle Walk from Lucan to Medway, Thursday morning, The Grades XXI and XIII students have raised around $1,500 each year for this purpose.
