MP says beefmen may
claim payment of premium
"Reef producers who sold
slaughteeed cattle between
March 4 and 17 can claim a
premium payment from the
federal, gOverninent,"
McKinley,: Huron MP, told .this.
newspaper Tuesday afternoon.
Mr. McKinley added that laim
forms are being sent across the
country for produeers to pick up
and fill .out.
Payment on . current
marketings is being made
through cattle .buyers„ rather
than directly to the producers.
However, to obtain premiums on
cattle marketed betWeen March 4
and 17, producers must submit a
claim form. They must also show
proof of price received and verify
that their animals were sold for
immediate slaughter.
Mr. McKinley also explained.
that because there will be no
accurate method todeterrninethe
grade of the animals marketed
between March 4 and 17, the
premium has been pro-rated at
five cents per pound, to apply on
all slaughter cattle with the
exception cows and mature bulls,
Those producers who sold their
cattle on a rail grade basis bet-
ween March 4 and 17 may make
their claim op a basis of $12,25
per cwt, for steers, and $12.50 per
cwt. for heifers grading A-1 and
A-2, Which is related to the seven
cent live weight.
A producer may only claim an•
the basis of either five cents on all
A, 13 and C live cattle sold for
slaughter, or on a rail grade basis
on A-1 and A-2 carcasses.
The Huron MP said producers
can pick up their claim forms at
inspected plants, non-inspected
plants, public stock yards, sales
barns, agricultural represen-
tatives, provincial authorities,
Agriculture Canada division
staff, or directly from the
Agricultural Stabilization Board
