Heavy traffic is a disruptive
force in any community. Con-
sumers' Association of Canada
reports that roads devour about
20 percent of a city's land;
private driveways and garages
raise the total to almost 50 per-
cent. Continuous expansion of
roadways results in waste of land
and rising housing costs. Rapid
transit systems are one alter-
native.

The Lucan-Ilderton Jets have
taken a two games to one lead
over the Durham Huskies in the
Ontario Hockey Association
Continental Senior semi-final
series.
After the Huskies spored a
come from behind 6-4 win in
Ilderton Friday night, the Jets
scored a 4-3 decision Sunday in
Durham on Barry Baynham's
goal in the second sudden-death
overtime period.
The fourth game was played in
Ilderton last night Wednesday
and the fifth goes back in
Durham Friday night. If a `sixth
contest is necessary it will go at
the Ilderton arena Sunday night
at 7.30 p.m,
Baynham's goal broke a
scoring famine Sunday which
lasted more than 59 minutes
after the score was tied at 3-3 at
elapsed Rick Fifield completed a
passing combination with
Galloway and Nairn,
In the early minutes of the
middle session Bill F'airbairn
gave the Jets a two goal edge.
Jamie Robb and Steve Proctor
assisted.
In the last 36 seconds of the
period Gerry Herman scored
twice to even the count at 3-3.
Joe Grundy put the Huskies in
front at 11.52 and four minutes
later Herman was back with his
fourth successful shot of the
game.
Barry Baynham put the Jets a
little closer at 16.56 as he hit the
mark on a hard slap shot. With
the Jets putting on a six forward
attack in favour of the goalie Don
Vipond scored into the empty net
for the Huskies at 19,43 and the
contest was over.

period.
They played the balance of the
second period and all of the third
and a 20 minute overtime period
before Baynham sent the large
throng of Jet fans home happy,
He took a pass from Jamie
Robb near centre ice and split the
Durham defence and went in to
fool goalie Gord Becker.
The first period was less than a
minute old when Jamie Robb hit
the scoreboard for the Jets as he
took a pass from Bill Fairbairn
and fired a 30 foot slap shot
through Becker's legs. •
Veteran Doug Galloway was in
the right spot at 9,42 to tip in a
shot from Jack Nairn. Rick
Fifield also assisted.
In the next five minutes the
Huskies got blisy and tied the
score on successful shots by Dale
Rahn and Mayo Paquette.
In the second period Robb and
Paquette each scored their
second goals of the game to keep
the score even and force over-
time.
Referee Frank Slota handed
out 11 minor penalties with the
Jets taking seven.
The Jets built up a 3-1 lead
early in the second period of
Friday's contest but were unable
to hang on as the Huskies out-
scored them five goals to one in
the balance of the game.
Pete Loveless put the Jets in
front 1-0 in the second minute of

That's what marrY of our customers say,
• BUT ARE THEY FOR YOU?
These facts may help you decide...
The Radial Tire is a giant step forward in the evolution of transportation. A
new dimension in safety and driving aesthetics. Canadian Tire has never ques-
tioned the unparalleled stability and surefootedness of the Radial. Our con-
cern centred around the high cot of producing the kind of Radial to which we
could conscientiously apply our Super-Lastic 'Safety 99' label and give
assurance of value.
Experience through millions of road-ruiles has piled up encouraging customer-evidence that ours is extra
ordinary radial value. Now, independenUesting shows 'Safety 99' Long Cord Radial delivering appreciably
more miles per dollar than the next best 10 tested ; and 100% better value than a popular foreign import.
Frequently the tire industry is accused of confusing tire buyers. We believe our success lies in a
willingness to bare all the facts. In doing 'so, we prove beyond any doubt that Canadian Tire
makes customer tire-dollars go farther..

Note that 4-Ply tires have lowest initial cost but highest
per-mile-cost. Glass Belted at a little more money, have low-
est of all per-mile-cost. They may ride a bit harder than
4-Ply but give better gas mileage, improved braking, traction,
on-track steering. The Radial pricc is almost twice that of
Olass-Belted. And its cost-per-mile is a little higher.
With economics favouring Olass-Belted, hy the rave over
Radials? Pans talk about their deep attachment to them.
Chances are you'll love them too. But they aren't to every
taste and many cars prior to '72 reject the Radial. So we.
invite vou to 'try befont.you buy', If Radials don't suit you,
.vimplv return then? plus invoke within 10 days and your pur-
chase price will he refunded. (New l'ailICS and service charges
not included)
To that end, the following comparison of values is given for
the popular size G il 5, Categories shown are the industry's
three popular types of tire, The three mileages shown are
purely relative, based on observation and not guaranteed.
Some drivers may get more, others less mileage.
(1) When our Safety 99 Radial, at $43.51, giVes 50.000 tread miles,
a,customer pays PO per 1000 miles.
(2) When our 2+2 Glass-Belted Polyester at $24,00 provides 30,000
miles, the customer-cost is 823 per 1000 miles.
(3) When our 4-Ply Polyester, at 616.50, provides 18,000 miles.
customer-cost works out to 92t per 1000 miles.
Now, la's investigate these findings a little further ,
