Jets even with Kings The quarter final series in Ontario Hockey Association Continental Senior play between the Lucan-Ilder ton Jets and London Icings is tied at a game apiece. The Jets won the first game of the best-of-seven series in Ilderton Sunday night by a score of 7-3 and the Kings came back to record a 3-0 shutout win in Lambeth Tuesday night. The series now swings back to the Ilderton arena for the third game Friday night at 8.30 with the fourth in Lambeth Sunday and the fifth back in Ilderton Tuesday night at 8.15 p.m. Tuesday's game which the Kings won 3-0 featured excellent goal tending at both ends of the rink. Brian Wilson was un- beatable in the London goal while Jet netminder Lorne Daer turned in a standout performance, Don McPhee scored two goals for London and Dennis Stead added a single. One goal came in each period. The three Jets and two Kings who were ejected from Sunday's game with game misconduct penalties were back in action. The teams paid the $25 fine to the OHA for each player instead of the one game suspension. Tables turn Although the Jets took a 4-1 lead after the first period of play in Sunday's opening contest, they were forced to overcome early pressure from the Kings, Only excellent goal tending by Lorne Daer in the first five minutes as the London club swarmed to the attack kept the Jets from facing an early deficit. The tide seemed to turn near the six minute mark and in the next two minutes the Jets jumped into a lead which they never relinquished. Dick Doughty started the counting with a good wrist shot from near the blueline with assists going to Jack Nairn and Rick Fifield, The second goal came as the result of another long shot, this time of the slap variety from Jamie Robb. Tom Hodgins and Tony Herlick assisted. The two teams traded goals near the 17 minute mark. Terry Bourne was the L-I marksmen with help from Pete Loveless and Herlick while Jim Walker replied for London. The Jets lead went to 4-1 at 18.40 of the opening session on a three-way effort with Jack Nairn and Tom Hodgins. Fifield was right back in a scoring mood before one minute had elapsed in the second period. Winter activities heading to end Winter activities are slowly coming to an end it was revealed by arena manager Alvin Willert this week. The ballet classes have con- cluded and a graduation was held last week. Willert told RAP Monday night that it was one of the most successful years on record and he commended Debi Wooden for her efforts. Gymnastic classes conclude with a demonstration at the high school, while figure skating and minor hockey will end when $ the ice machine is turned off oh March 31. . Jack Underwood, president of the figure skating club, said the recent carnival was a success, despite the fact the youngsters practiced for less than two weeks due to the illness of instructor Brad Loosley. He said the club would probably go back to holding two shows next year and had learned that less time was required for practice than had been previously used. A father says his teen-age son took a job-aptitude test; he was found to be suited for retirement. This time Jack Narin and Doug Galloway provided the passing help. John Lutes counted for London a few minutes later and Jamie Robb chalked up the sixth goal for the Jets near the halfway park as he converted passes from Tom Hodgins and Bill Bourne. Each team tallied once in the final frame. Brian Chinnick scored for the Kings at 1.5:03 just after his club had missed a couple of open nets and bounced a puck off the goal post, Jack Nairn completed the Jets scoring with help from Rick Fifield and Bill Bourne. A crowd of 650 watched as both benches emptied during a fight which broke out with only five seconds remaining to play, The row started when John Gammage of the Kings took a swing at Rick Fifield, Gammage and Jack Criel of London received game misconducts while Fifield, Jack Nairn and Bill Bourne received similar penalties. Lieury leads Ausable final Lieury leads the Ausable Rec league final over Parkhill three games to none. Parkhill was leading Sunday's game 3-2 when referee Pat O'Brien awarded the game to Lieury when Parkhill players persisted in using delaying tactics, Dale Whitelaw scored twice to pace the Parkhill scoring attack. The single goal was fired by Dale Battram, Scoring for Lieury were Marty Jones and Brian Ropp. In Sunday's consolation game, Bob Hodgins with four successful shots was best for Brinsley. Phil Conlin was next in line with two goals while singles were notched by Jack Conlin and Bob McIntosh. Scoring in single fashion for Shipka were George Grenier, Rene Boogemans, Ken Fraser and Steve Hodgins. Soccer club in London loop An ,Exter entry has been ac- cepted into the London and District Soccer 'Association. Dave Zyluk, one of the local organizers, told RAP this week the team would be playing in the third division of the league and could be promoted to higher divisions with a winning record. However, he noted that if the team made it to the first division, it would be mandatory to have a regulation field, posts and change rooms, He said it was "unlikely" the team would win promotion each year. For the coming season, the club hopes to use land provided by Canadian Canners Ltd. off Nelson or Wellington Streets. • Car Clean-Up • Car Waxing • Car Washing TRY US TODAY SWEET GYPSY ROSES — Graduates in the intermediate ballet divi- sion performed "Sweet Gypsy Rose" Friday night at South Huron District High School.
