The Explorers of Carmel
Presbyterian Church met Sunday
for their fourth space probe. Mrs,
A , Hoggarth welcomed the young
astronauts to the command
module,
Symbols were discussed and
the fish which is the symbol of the
early Christians was made by
each member and worn for the
remainder of the meeting. "The
Secret Pillars" was read by
Darlene Faber, Lisa Stretton,
Greg and Paul Hoggarth.
The members then told of their
own secret possessions. Prayer of
Thanksgiving for these and other
blessings was participated in by
all present. A treasure hunt for
hidden candies and a game follow
the leader was enjoyed.
Murray Taylor took up the
collection. Mrs. Hoggarth then
read a story to give the Explorers
some idea where the money is
sent to help the needy. A singsong
accompanied by the tape
recorder brought the meeting to a
clpse.

passes away
Ross D. Broadfoot of RR 2,
Kippen passed away in South
Huron Hospital in Exeter on
Friday, February 22, 1974 in his
71st year.
Surviving are his wife, the
former Mary McDonald, 3
daughters, Mrs. Howard (Joyce)
Atkins, RR 1, Zurich; Mrs. John
(Edna) Deitz, RR 3, Kippen,
Mrs. Robert (Margaret)
Wareing, Kippen; two brothers,
Sam, London; and Wilmer,
Seaforth and 2 sisters Mrs, Allan
(Margaret) Armstrong,
Goderich; .Mrs. Harold (Helen)
Connell, Seaforth. Six grand,
children also survive.
The late Mr. Broadfoot rested
at the Bonthron Funeral Chapel
in Hensall when funeral service
was held Tuesday February 26,
1974 at 2 p.m. Interment in
Maitland Bank Cemetery,
Seaforth.
Pall bearers were Bob
McGregor, Bob Elgie,Morley
Cooper, Edison McLean, Mike
Connelly and Joe McLellan.
Flower bearers were Ron
McGregor and Bill Coleman.

Rev. Don Beck preached on the
sermon topic "On being with it",
for the service in Hensall United
Church Sunday morning. The
choir sang the anthe'm "Rise up 0
men of God," under the direction
of Mrs. Turkheim at the organ.
The Hensall Council and Fire
Department were the special
guests for the day. Nineteen
former members of the Fire
Department were honoured with
long service plaques for ten years
or more service to the com-
munity.

ACW plans tea
for St. Patrick's
The regular meeting of St.
Pauls ACW was held February 21
a't the home of Mrs. F. Clark. The
President Mrs. G, A. Anderson
opened the meeting with the
members prayer.
Plans were finalized for the St.
Patricks Day Tea and Bake Sale
to be held in the basement of the
Church on Saturday March 16 at 3
p,m. Pamphlets were distributed
to the members taking part in the
Worlds Day of Prayer in Carmel
Presbyterian Church on March 1
at 3 p.m.
The Spring Deanery will be
held at St. Pauls Church in Str-
atford on April 17. A passage
from The Living Message was
read, and the meeting closed with
the Grace.

Conservationist tells ladies
about soil and water control

Mr. Jim Rowat, of the Ausable-
Bayfield Conservation Authority,
discussed Conservation
Authority. He showed slides of
the Ausable-Bayfield Con-
servation Authority and said
there are 39 Conservation
Authorities in Ontario.
The programs include flood
control, water conservation,
erosion control, reforestation,
the' visiting committee and a
number of "Thank You" notes
were read.
An, invitation was received to
attend Victoria Lodge No. 1 on
March 7th and to participate in
the closing of Lodge.
A euchre party will be held in
the local hall on Wednesday
March 20, to which everyone is
invited.
