Dear Sir:
We have worked under 4 dif-
ferent Stephen township councils
in the past 22 years, and up until
the decision of the present council
we always worked; equal work
and equal pay.
Now the present council hired
an out of township new employee
who has learned to operate the
grader at $3.00 per hr for six
months, then up to $3.50 per hr.
They gave one other grader
operator $3.50 effective Jan. 1,
1974 and the two older employees
they tried to keep them at $3.00
per hour, which was 1973 wages
and after quite a battle was put
up to $3.30 per hour for 1974.
All do equal work; operate
trucks, bulldozer, back-hoe and
loaders. The whole crew does the
same thing. Therefore I feel there
is discrimination involved here.
The head of the table of five got
up and said "there is no labour to
operating a 5 ton truck, that hauls
gravel, clay, and ploughs snow
because it has power steering
and power brakes."
Another member of the table
stated, "there is no labour in-
volved mowing grass from fence
to fence with tractor and
mower." We all know that there
are mail boxes, culberts and
other objects to consider when
performing these duties.
I feel that this decision has
been very unfair and
discriminating The article that
was printed in last week's paper
is misleading to the ratepayers;
as it states that all full time
employees got the same increase.
This is not true!
