Members of the Right To Life
committee met Monday evening'
to organize a local campaign to
' get signatures on a petition to
tighten Canada's abortion Laws.
The campaign will attempt to
cover most of South Huron
County and is part of a nation-
wide Alliance For Life drive to
present the federal government
with a pro,lifepetition signed with
a million signatures,
The meeting, chaired by Mr. C.
Van Raay, decided that in order
for the campaign to be successful
two things would be necessary,
First, it was thought best to seek
the support of local churches and
to ask the assistance of ministers
and priests.
Secondly, to give the people of
South Huron an opportunity to
consider, the issue of abortion, a
program on abortion, with guest
speaker Dr. Hart Bezner of
Wilfrid Laurier University,
Waterloo, will be held February
21, at 8:00 p,m. in the gymnasium
of the South Huron District High
School.
The petition states:
Parliament's most basicduty is
to protect innocent human life.
The scientific evidence now
confirms beyond reasonable
doubt that a new human life
begins at conception, yet our laws
permit the widespread practice
of abortion in Canada.
`Therefore, we the undersigned
call upon Parliament to enact
legislation providing for the child
conceived, but not yet born, the
same protection provided for any
other person. We also urge
Parliament to show leadership in
fostering a life-sustaining
society.'
